First off is my commute from west Houston. Even at 6:50pm the pierce elevated is not a fun stretch to drive. There was some traffic on i10 but that was due to a stalled vehicle. All in all 34 minutes from my place to the uh parking garage. Not bad, not great, but it won’t be a deterrent to attend future events.
The $10 parking was sticker shock, though. But, considering I complained 20 years ago about $5 parking, a doubling in cost but adding a garage is good.
I tried to bring my laptop in to do some work during breaks in the action but the bag check folks said no. I figure this is the case with any event at UH so I won’t be able to bring it to soccer if I decide to go to those games someday.
Fertita is nice! My last time here was during the sad days of cougar basketball. I wish you could see the court action from the concourse like in the olden days, but such is life. It would be nice for presentation if they didn’t use the concourse for equipment storage, or at least put it in the side of the arena with no access. Extra screens to see the action when walking to get food would be nice, but that gets into nitpicking. The second floor is fantastic to watch the action on the court.
And the crowd was pretty electric! A large percent were teenagers and preteens from what I assume are local volleyball clubs. They cheered and kept me entertained so my laptop would have been a waste to get into the arena.
Cougar brass, and the cheerleaders are as fun to watch as the old days.
Only one concession stand was open. Understandable. But can’t see any of the court action while in line. Plenty of concession workers so it moved quickly. Facilities staffing levels definitely on the ball.
I can’t remember the rules so I was lost. But still had fun watching the game, and all the kids going ballistic over Shasta.
A good time and a good facility.
