Maddox hits the transfer portal

With the NIL in place and the free transfer year, Kopp may be being recruited by other teams.

This is no surprise especially when Tune will be the starter next year too. All QBs want to start. I won’t be surprised if other QBs on the roster transfer.

Great question but the only one I can give you is that he did not feel he could compete. I am 100% assuming. At this juncture his decision can only bring assumption(s) Either way this is not a good look. The good news for him is that he still has plenty of academic work in front of him.

Must heard the rumor that rattler is transferring to Houston and will sit out next year and play in the big 12 first season.

What is interesting is he signed with us when Dana had his worst record. Now he is leaving a 9-1 team

Thank you!

Edit: The last true really great QB at the Private School level I remember was when I was coming out of H.S. .

Haha. You surreee?

Doesn’t make sense unless he knows tune is back next yr

Makes plenty of sense. He hasn’t performed well in practice and was behind on the depth chart.

Not everyone wants to sit on the bench for three years before they play. I totally get why he would leave if Tune plans to return next year. And with the success he’s having this year there’s no reason to believe he won’t return

Coach might have sat down w him n told him it would be tough for him to be #1 in next year or two. Tough for the young kid but hopefully this is similar to CKS Teams where competition is higher within the team due to higher level of recruiting happening.

Edit: BTW b4 any comments come, I’m stepping slowly back on Football side w extreme caution :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:. I gave myself a 40+ days reprieve away from Football n I know the 1-2 to stay away from on here. Congrats to All Alums, Players, Coaches on a Great Season so far. It was much needed.

To me it’s got to be something the coaches said. Like Dana is very honest with his players. Maybe he told him Sofian is ahead of him and Maddox is far away from playing. It can’t just be Tune because Tune is only here for 1 more year. And we will be in the big 12 after that

Wow. Surprised when I read this. Was looking forward to seeing him play, but obviously I don’t know the behind the scene activities.

Yeah, it’s all speculation on our part but I do wish him well. Unless he lands at another B12 school!

Have you attended any of the UH FB practices to see first hand that he hasn’t performed well?

It appears to me that CDH’s depth chart at QB is heavily seniority oriented. When you see a walk-on QB (like Ike) getting all the back up reps instead of any more heavily recruited and talented scholarship players (with game reps to burn) it doesn’t bode well to me for the future recruiting of any HS QB’s.

And if so, I think that we might well become fully reliant on the transfer portal or JUCO QB’s in the future. Does anyone know if this was the case for CDH while he was the coach up at West Virginia?

I knew this was going to happen and I got so much hate for it here

If by seniority you mean the guys with the most time in the system are usually at the top, then I agree. Both Ike and Tune are in their 3rd year. Kopp his first, Massoud his second, and Edwards his first (Edwards is a Juco xfer so he has college experience.). Apparently Edwards was more advanced than either Kopp or Massoud since he played vs Grambling instead of them.

As we’ve had no indication he’s been anything but a good teammate, let’s wish the best landing spot for him. I’m a bit surprised with the negative comments here. Of course he’s competitive, but he doesn’t see a path to be the starter. About zero of the posters here have been D-I scholarship athletes.

I’ve only seen one truly negative post so far. Hopefully that’s it. :unamused:
