I’m watching the news and I am quite amused. Why does our Harris county funding have to back some event that’s majorly improving the life of out of state and jurisdiction? Educate me please. It’s not indignation but if they’re generating so much money out of these events we should make this a private event.
Hmmm… perhaps because it is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Houston, the event is held in Houston and the proceeds go to the American Cancer Society. The event works closely with the Front Line Kids, who are children being treated for cancer at Texas Children’s and MD Andersen. It seems very worthwhile for Harris County Sports Association to support a major collegian award with its roots firmly in Houston.
For those of you wondering…
Summer Creek’s own Kelvin Banks, Offensive Left Tackle, University of Texas, won the Lombardi Award last night.
All those national awards are presented by or got their start with a local club.
The Touchdown Club of Columbus used to present the Sammy Baugh Trophy and a bunch of lesser known trophies but stopped in 2018. I have in my collection D’eriq King’s player to watch trophy for 2019, they stopped presenting the award that season.
The day the Houston sports Authority was founded. I stopped bringing clients to Houston. On the very very rare occasions where they did come visit, I would put them in a hotel in Fort Bend County so that the sports Authority would get less revenue. Turned out OK because they enjoyed the restaurants Down there.
