Josh Innes

Hey gang,

As some of you know 790 let Charlie go and brought in Josh Innes. He will drop bombs on Cougar fans to get ratings. So please stay away from him and any comments he makes. It’s all to drive up ratings nothing more.

Yeah, I heard some of his show yesterday. He is a shock jock and nothing more. Claims to be “unbiased” on his opinions and tells it like it is. He admits he will rub people the wrong way and so on and so forth. I couldn’t listen for more than 20 minutes. Dude comes off as a bit of a emotional, smart-ass, know it all, that has never been in a locker room, but acts like he has insight on what it is like. Yeah, I will make a hard pass with his show. Charlie was smart and most of the time, condescending, but this guy is no Charlie Pallilo.

Sounds like another former local shock jock we cam too familiar with. Name rhymes with Dick Fright.

Yep. If 790 has any intelligence or business sense whatsoever, they will make sure Josh Innes is never put in a position to talk to CTH.

I doubt CTH would grant Innes an interview or comment in the first place.

I like 790 in the mornings, but am making sure to change my AM dial before getting out of the car for the day. I’ve tuned in a few minutes at a time just to listen to the train wreck, but he’s already started an anti-UH fan agenda, so I’m not really interested in listening to that. Hope 790 management comes to regret this decision sooner than later.

Please let this be the beginning of the end for this guy in Houston:

I was trying to listen to sports radio this summer on the morning commute and after the fourth racial rant in a row I decided to stop listening to 790 altogether, that guy is awful.

I like In the Trenches and The Bottom Line (although I don’t really care for Sean Jones) on 790. I also like Sean Pendergast and Seth Payne on 610. Unfortunately, very little of the air time attributed to these shows corresponds well with my commute. The rest is trash. I refuse to listen to Josh Innes at all.

I try to catch Pallilo on 1560 online from 11 to 1 but wish he was on during my drive time. Otherwise I don’t tune into Sports talk on any station

Matt Thomas (lunchtime slot) waves the UH flag more than any sports radio guy in this market. Best show on 790.

The only thing I listen to is podcast ain’t played nobody.

If you don’t give a rats ass about anything other than college football, that’s the show to listen to. Lot’s of talk of teams outside the P5 and Houston is a common topic when relevant.

I have tried listening to Matt since he is a Coog but for me he is all over the board and seemed to prefer entertainment talk [restaurants, travel stories with the Rockets, etc] and listener contests than staying on sports topics. Everyone is different …just one Coog’s opinion

What was the reason for revoking the credentials?

Violated media rules. His producer was broadcasting live by calling Innes from practice, even after he was asked to stop.

I refuse to listen to this clown. His show is trash and his talk is silly. I quickly turn it on another station when I hear the Josh Innis Show opening credits…

Interesting how some were fooled by Charlie. The only time he had anything nice to say about the Cougars was when he was being paid to broadcast from on campus.

I remember once Charlie being all bent out of shape because his broadcast needed to be cut an hour short for the UH basketball game. Something along the lines that few people care about UH basketball. Of course the only reason i got to hear that was I had just tuned in early for the pregame show.

Charlie is definitely not a Cougar supporter. He will call out and make fun of A&M and UT as well when they stink (and they have recently). He even mentioned taking satisfaction in Baylor losing to UTEP and Liberty. I called him out when he made fun of no one listening because he came on after a mid-afternoon C-USA basketball tourney game for UH. He initially thought I was thin-skinned but I explained that he was making a big mistake because the ONLY people listening at that point were likely diehard Coogs listening to Dickey explain another early exit from the conference tourney (IIRC).

He can be as disrespectful to UH as any other sports talk personality but he can be more fair than others as well when deserved.

As a basketball season ticket holder, I can tell you that he was/is right that few people care about UH basketball or else Sampson would get better support. We all know there are hardcore supporters that go to the games, listen to the post-game (Jeremy Branham is the best play-by-play announcer we have had in a LOOOONG time), occasionally attend even a coach’s show, etc. but the vast majority of people in Houston could not tell you who the head coach of UH Basketball is and in which conference they compete much less how they have fared over the last few years.

Obviously I don’t like Charlie for his “support” of my Cougars. However, I do respect the fact that he is a one-man show that talks nothing but sports for his entire show. No comedy act, no food reviews, no caller “instant polls”, no super model Sweet Sixteen tournament, no “who has the best drinking story”, etc. Just sports. Delivered in a no nonsense way with no sugar coating regardless of the topic. And his segment with Phil Steele every week during football season is good radio in my opinion.

He is not for everybody – I get that. But he is much better than Innes.
