Johntay Cook II

Former 5 star out at UT. From Desoto, do we have interst?

Dismissed from team. Doesn’t sound like a Fritz guy but who knows

Seems like the perfect candidate for SMU. I’m eyeing a different Texas receiver.

Are we concerned that unless Barbay goes, we wont attract big time receivers in the portal?

I don’t care who it is……this team has to find some WR threats in the portal….even this team , which we know is overachieving, would be so much better on offense with a couple of legit WR’s.

I know this is kind of a “no sh-t Sherlock” kind of post but I think it’s the teams biggest need.

From what I am hearing, Cook had a toe injury this season and the injury affected his playing time. Texas has so many talented receivers Cook moved down in the receiver rotation and was not happy about his playing time. Not uncommon at a school like Texas.

If I was Fritz, I would be open to talking to Cook to see where he is at. Cook was the third best receiver nationally when he came out of Desoto HS. He would be a huge pickup for any school. Cook has an NIL deal with Beats by Dre. Who knows if that would transfer to his new school.

OC change to a guy like Marion fixes a huge issue. Marion also recruited Cook out of HS pretty sure

One of the national media guys tweeted he was dismissed but I can’t find it now. That is a lot different than “moving on” over playing time lol. He avg more yards per catch than Golden. Would be pretty funny if he landed here

Said it was a mutual leaving decision.
Don’t think was anything but that. I used to live in Dallas, and the DeSoto players always had a pipeline to UT$. So him leaving is because of playing time and his injury.

Which one are you looking at?

Marion probably gets a HC gig next.

I dont think we have even one WR in our current 2025 class. We need a couple of good ones for sure. Wait, my mistake. Our newest commit, Kenzie West is a 3 star WR with good offers from SEC and ACC schools…

We also have Hogshooter.

Zaylen Cormier, ranked a top 60 player in the state by 247, is actually coming in as a WR. We also have the new commit, Hogshooter, and from the '24 class, Koby Young (Rivals 4 star) and Jayshon Ridgle (4 star), both of whom have a world of potential.
