Interesting Note On The 2025 Recruiting Class

Please leave this thread open so that somebody from UH athletics department sees this. I didn’t see them spamming this info all over during signing day so I’m not sure if they are aware.

So those of us that follow recruiting are aware that this current class is the highest ranked class since Tom Herman’s #htowntakeover in 2016. These rankings are based on 247’s composite score which combines the rankings of 247, espn, rivals, and on3. In 2016, UH’s composite ranking was #36 in the country. The current 2025 class has a composite ranking of #50 at the moment.

But what I haven’t seen UH athletics department point out is what 247’s own internal rankings say about the current class. While the 2025 class has a composite ranking of #50, 247’s own standalone rankings has UH’s 2025 class currently ranked at #37 in the country. For the 2016 #htowntakeover class was ranked #42 in the country.

All of that to say this, according to 247’s own standalone rankings this 2025 class that CWF just signed is THE HIGHEST RANKED recruiting class that UH has signed in the history of modern recruiting rankings!!!*

After having such a down year the school’s communications department should be all over this. Look around at how depressed this fan base is. Not everyone follows recruiting. Give folks something to get excited about. Something to look forward.

“Best class since…” sounds great but “Best class ever” sounds amazing.

In these pictures the composite rankings are in bold while 247’s rankings are in the small boxes underneath (and circled by me). Note that modern rankings don’t take into account the pre 2000s classes. We know UH signed even higher ranked classes back in the SWC.

Obviously we’re talking about recruiting since the advent of Internet recruiting sites. Neither the ‘16 nor ‘25 class compares to as many as five or more from the 70s, two of which which were or would have been top five nationally.

In ‘73 we signed three Parade All-Americans (one, Lee Canalito, made the team as a junior), which were the equivalent of five star prospects today. There were just over 30 players on the All-American team. We also had almost 40% of the 16 or so Super Teamers named by Texas Football that year.

These comments are correct.

Bill Yeoman signed all of our top recruiting classes, starting in 1964 when he signed Warren McVea, the Nation’s top recruit.

The 1973 class was unreal. It included Wilson Whitley. The Nation’s best Lineman in 1976. In College Ed Oliver was not better than was Wilson.

It is wonderful to see our recruiting improving.

If it gets to the level we routinely enjoyed with Yeoman we will be in The National Playoffs.
