I still like Chriss

But he needs to know when the clock is going off and throw it away.
That was something Briles coached QBs like Kolb and Keenum were great at.
If the bubble screen was covered he would just throw it out of bounds over everyone’s head.
Live to play another day.
He also needs to hold onto the ball on runs

Kid has talent he just needs coaching.

He made some great reads and throws last night. I kept thinking why is it that it took our last game to be mildly creative.

Deion and the Colorado players saying Chris’s played so bad he was trying to throw the game

That just means they haven’t watched us much this year. :slightly_smiling_face:

Deion was a fantastic player and is on path to become a really good HC but right now?

Was it Chriss fault that they lost against Kansas…a must win?
Again

I’d say convert him to Running Back, but we need a more accurate passer as our starting QB next year, i can see Stephon and Manjack frustrated with a bunch of underthrown passes all year

Criss would be an AWESOME triple option QB with his ability to run.

He could also be deadly as an “H-Back” type receiver with his size and speed.

As a passer though, he leaves a lot to be desired. We could kind of see that in last year’s Spring game, but we could also see that throughout the season.

Perhaps with a full off-season, he can get better in that regard.

We’ll see.

So Chriss is very interesting. He clearly didn’t play well enough to warrant getting a big payday from a bigger school and bolting on us but he showed enough potential as an athlete to feel like maybe there is something there. It feels like the call is Fritz’s to make if he wants to keep rolling with him as starter or asks him to move on. If Fritz wants to go all in on defense and running the ball on offense and playing this 20-17 type games again, I could see him going all in on Chriss with us having an easier schedule next year we should be targeting 6-7 wins with Chriss. The problem is as Law says, he isn’t really that great of a thrower so it pigeon holes the way you will have to play with him. Fritz may also feel with a different OC our offense and Chriss will be better. If I had to guess right now I’d guess Chriss is our starter next year and we build our offense around his strengths.

Let’s see how he does with a new OC and new QB coach. He has show (not often enough) some terrific throws and decisions. He is the starter now until someone decides otherwise.

Transfer to Rice.

Chriss will be competing with at least Carlisle and McMickle. He might not beat either of them out if he doesn’t improve his passing this spring and fall camp. IF we somehow get a ~stud portal QB, then he’s not seeing the field as a QB without some major improvements.

Then again, who knows what he would look like with a decent OL.

We aren’t getting a stud qb in the portal because the old coots on Coogfans won’t give $20 a month to NIL lol

Ok I will give $20 to a stud QB and even take him out for burgers and french fries.

National Championship here we come.

You guys can thank me later.

Barbay (ex-OC) was a hindrance. His offense and play calling exacerbated our lack of skill and made as little use of our talent as possible. I 100% believe that.

I made a side comment that Chriss’ fumbles looked like he was purposefully putting the ball on the ground. I’m not saying it’s true, but I can understand why CO. is saying that.

Dione Jr is just butt hurt.
Chriss played well until late in the game with that bad int and fumble.
Otherwise he was solid. He even did a great job on the 2 point conversion.

I’ve seen enough of Chriss to make me think he isn’t the right fit. That being said, I could see him as the #1 next year.

Its was freezing cold, thats why he was fumbling. Poor guy probably couldn’t feel his hands, let alone the ball

Chriss needs to move to H-Back/WR like Braxton Miller did in his final year at Ohio State. He’s NOT a starting QB whatsoever but he is extremely athletic, so if he has NFL aspirations, he should be open to changing positions. I think McMickle will be given every opportunity to compete with Austin Carlisle for the starting spot. FWIW, Fritz recruited McMickle at Tulane & I wonder if he didn’t get hurt early on, would he have seen the field this year. Im not sure what happens with Ui but I still want to see him get a fair shot to win the job. Jake Sock & Indiana Wijay still have a long way to go b4 they think about seeing the field.

We don’t really know what we have in Chriss. The evidence for that is how much better Smith looked last season than this season. So Chriss didn’t look great this year but our offense was so bad that we have no idea if he can be the guy.

He has the ability to be a better runner than 99% of the other QBs in the NCAA. That’s something. He’s shown he can make some throws. That’s something too.

Let’s get a better OC in here, better players around the QBs and see what shakes out.

He might be the guy.

ZC is an excellent runner and very inconsistent passer. He can probably improve some, but I just believe he doesn’t have some of the QB instincts it takes to be even a consistently good passing QB. I think he, and the team, will be best served by moving to WR/Hback. I believe he could be a star there.

Go Coogs!
