Kids fresh out of college continue acting line college kids. News at 11

Seriously though, if you have higher expectations for 23-26 year olds you better pay like it, or you also have to judge the sh*t out of all the other young uns showing up to their jobs hungover, which is basically all of them.

Move to NY.

That coaching money would go into your salary. If you are doing it at the end of your career it woukd certainly raise your final average.

I realize states vary. NY teachers also pay into Social Security.

Well I’m 28 myself, and my partying days slowed down by the time I turned 25. Granted, I started going to bars around 17-18 with fake IDs

Perhaps my expectations are too high

You can have high expectations, but the folks hiring better pay like it is what I’m saying. If you have the same expectations of a teacher as a doctor the pay should reflect that.

We’re going to grossly underpay and hold you to a higher standard than your societally worthless business major peers is probably not a strong seller.

Well your tax dollars are paying teachers

So it kinda goes back to my original point. If we want better teachers (and happier teachers), why don’t we agree to a federal tax increase just to pay teachers more money

I wonder if that would pass congress

Well first because it’s mostly property taxes that fund school districts. So the tax statement is a bit misguided.

But wouldn’t hurt my feelings I would gladly pay more in taxes for consistently better paid and happier teachers. I’d also support a myriad of system reforms as led by experienced on the ground teachers and administrators.

I’d also like to hold a myriad of “reformer’s” heads underwater until their legs stop kicking but that’s a different story.

Permanent tax increases of that magnitude are largely nonstarters.

Tax increases for a societal good? I might as well get my hammer and sickle polished for the May Day parade comrade

Tax increases and Texas don’t go together

That’s why they named Texas

Preach comrade

Taxes are going to increase in Houston’s outer suburbs eventually, by force.

Most of the infrastructure and housing in Houston’s best school districts (Woodlands, Cypress, Katy, sugar land, etc.) is dependent on construction and maintenance that’s also dependent on fossil fuel subsidies.

Once fossil fuel demand declines and is replaced by renewable energy (for which majority of America doesn’t even have the infrastructure prepared for such a transition), all that infrastructure including roads will have to be funded by something. And given most of the suburbs are Red, it’s going to be a gigantic problem

Hey you used that somewhat correctly! Improvement already, would a business major do that for you?

More people don’t homeschool because they’re too fu—in’ stupid or they don’t have the patience.

It’s not just a time thing.

I don’t want my doctor or broker coming in hungover either.

In Texas only a handful of districts in the entire state pay into social security
.but they also pay into retirement

most teachers can’t afford $800-1000 of their monthly income going to two different things.

I have made enough outside of teaching as far as paying into SS quarters so it would be a waste for me.

My wife and I have done really well with rental properties and rolling over properties in the last 20+ years
.otherwise I’d be working until the day I died.

I would be terrible at it. I don’t have the patience. Just the homework and studying conversation is exhausting.

Yes, some people use schools as babysitters. I am guessing most of those demographics are not on this board. That said there are many who do want better for their kids and look to schools for education.

Then there are those parents who blame teachers for their kids not doing great when the students is taught at home bad manners, no discipline, and the parents support the bad behaviors and blame teachers.

Also lots of bad/false takes on homeschooling here too. Kids are not worse off due to homeschooling than covid. There are many supporting organizations that provide lots of activities for homeschool kids and additional educational opportunities. Creates homeschooling opportunities and homeschool hybrid options.

The only homeschool kids that are really losing out are from those that are not really homeschooled, but claim to be.
