Houston Astros 2023 Season on a daily roll

To make the numbers work, I wonder how much attendance and TV viewership of Dodgers games has to go up to pay for the $700 million.

I do not know. I wonder what the Japanese-Merican population is in LA? Has to be decent. I guess you could look at his numbers in Anaheim. He’ll bring the kids out. I know that. He’s big numbers, no lie.

TV is something I don’t understand.

If his agent gets 6%, then $42MM is a nice payday over the life of the contract.

Commission could be upwards to 10%.

The international crowd at Angels games probably hovers around 5-10%. And 100% of that crowd is rocking Ohtani gear.

They generated 201 million apparently off tickets sales last year. 47k attendance and average ticket price of 52.6. So if they could get up to around 50k and a $55 ticket that’d be like an additional 25 million without even factoring the playoffs.

Edit: just read that the Angels made 10-20 million off of Ohtani related advertising. The Dodgers are much bigger brand so they should easily do 20 million or more.

TV is really a 3 - part invention. It takes a camera, a transmitter, and a receiver to capture the signal……

You didn’t mention the buttons. I don’t think you were the TV analyst we thought we were hiring.

Buttons? I grew up as my dad’s remote control and had to turn knobs.

Meh, he was 8-16 that year.

That’s just not worth it to me. He has had two Tommy johns. He’s a great pitcher but beatable. He’s a great hitter but you can find great hitters for way cheaper.

He finished the 1987 season with a 2.76 ERA with 270 Ks. The Astros were so bad they scored only 27 runs in his 16 losses. He finished 5th in the Cy Young voting.

He also pitched two no hitters for Texas.

Definitely tongue in cheek.

Ryan had a great season other than W/L. Led the league in ERA and K’s. I didn’t realize this, but that season was his best K/9IP of his career (11.5).

Too bad we didn’t have Nolan the same time as JR other than part of one year.

Of all of the big money signings over the last 5 years in MLB. Other than Cole with the Yankees, who has lived up to the money?

You talkin Yankees specifically or the league as a whole?
