Houston Astros 2023 Season on a daily roll

The Dodgers don’t scare me. I don’t want the O’s or any team that runs a lot.

Stunned by the blow up in Chavez Ravine, though. They (dbacks)will run on Maldonado like a bunch of jackrabbits

My dream WS path is Texas and anyone not named Atlanta. Id actually enjoy a Dodger rematch but because I enjoyed my time in Arizona I’m 100% pulling for the DBacks.

Kershaw’s night comes to an end. 1/3 ip, 6 runs. Worst playoff pitcher of all time delivers again.

I love this podcast and I think Ben Verlander has the correct take about his brother:

Houston Astros handle business & the Diamondbacks pull off the game 1 upset | Flippin’ Bats | FOX Sports

Playoff baseball is so darn random and I freaking love it.

-A left handed pitcher gives up his first home run to a LHB after giving up zero all season long. -

-One of the best relievers in all of baseball who gave up more than 1ER one time all season long serves up a 4-spot with 2HRs in 2/3rds of an inning.

-The best offense in baseball was shutout for the first time at home since August 28th, 2021.

-Clayton Kershaw has the shortest outing of his entire MLB career.

-All three 100 win teams during the regular season lost yesterday

One sixty-two ERA. Not “one-point-six-two”, but “one hundred and sixty two”!!! :open_mouth::smile:

Ben says Justin wants to pitch til he’s 45. Also dropped garbage on Dusty for pulling him early. He doesn’t understand Dusty coaches 15 games in advance.

Neris. Discuss

I have zero issue with pulling JV there. Neris, Abreu, and Pressly for 7th-9th is the winning formula. Second guessing Dusty there is completely unfair. Nerris has made us nervous a lot of times but he’s also been a magician with getting us out of insane jams. Yesterday, he was just bad at locating his fastball.

The only thing I might consider is DB asking JV how he feels and if he wants to go out for one more, but Neris has done nothing this season to indicate he was going to be a gas can yesterday.

That’s postseason baseball.

If that’s playoff Neris ‘23 then we’re in trouble. Especially if Graveman can’t go in the ALCS

I would have given JV one more inning.

I probably would have. But if he’s fresh for game 5 duty thrn so be it.

I don’t fault Dusty on this….he is thinking about a possible game five and trying to keep him as fresh as possible.

I do fault him for not letting Yainer pinch hit for tubby.

I have a feeling he is potentially gonna cost us a game….yesterday he did nothing with his AB’s.

And we get at least the next two games of him?

Mark my words, he is going to have multiple times where he comes up with RISP and do absolutely nothing.

The short story I’m about to tell reflects poorly on me, and I own that. Still, here goes:

My wife and I were driving down I35 on the way home and listening to the game. It was somewhere in the 6th inning when Maldonado came up to bat. I remember it was the 6th because we had to turn the radio off in the 7th inning when that was clearly causing Neris to forget how to pitch and somehow causing Maldonado to call for fastballs to guys who only hit…fastballs.

Anyway, I digress. Bob Ford is doing his Maldonado intro and said something to the effect of “He’ll be looking for something fat to really get into.” I said the first thing that came to mind, which was, “something fat like…Maldonado?” And then in the most predictable thing ever, he struck out.

Sorry, not sorry.

There is zero reason to keep Maldy in the game past Verlander getting pulled. Should be Yainer in the later innings.
