Lol, I’m serious I’m like the worst golfer, it can’t be that damn complicated to hit that club, I’m decent with irons but can’t get off the tee box

Choke up on the driver a bit….its most likely the change in the length of the club ( driver vs irons).

Before I had my back issues I hovered around a 7-8 HC.
Every now and then I would spray my drives around……I would choke up a couple of inches and motor down on my swing….it usually straightens me out and then I slowly work back up the club and start swinging harder.

Seriously, choke up an inch or two and lessen your club speed….you should start hitting it more consistently.

Golf is easy. Only two variables - distance and direction.

New Golf Rules for Seniors: The Veterans Golf Association has negotiated with The Royal and Ancient in St Andrews, to modify the Rules of Golf for Seniors.

Rule 1.a.5

A ball sliced or hooked into the rough shall be lifted and placed on the fairway at a point equal to the distance it carried or rolled into the rough with no penalty. The senior should not be penalized for tall grass which groundskeepers failed to mow.

Rule 2.d.6 (b)

A ball hitting a tree shall be deemed not to have hit the tree. This is simply bad luck and luck has no place in a scientific game. The senior player must estimate the distance the ball would have travelled if it had not hit the tree and play the ball from there.

Rule 3.b.3(g)

There shall be no such thing as a lost ball The missing ball is on or near the course and will eventually be found and pocketed by someone else, making it a stolen ball. The player is not to compound the felony by charging himself or herself with a penalty.

Rule 4.c.7(h)

If a putt passes over a hole without dropping, it is deemed to have dropped. The law of gravity supersedes the Rules of Golf.

Rule 5.

Putts that stop close enough to the cup that they could be blown in, may be blown in. This does not apply to balls more than three inches from the hole. No one wants to make a travesty of the game.

Rule 6.a.9(k)

There is no penalty for so-called “out of bounds.” If penny-pinching golf course owners bought sufficient land, this would not occur. The senior golfer deserves an apology, not a penalty.

Rule 7.g.15(z)

There is no penalty for a ball in a water hazard, as golf balls should float. Senior golfers should not be penalized for manufacturers’ shortcomings.

Rule 8.k.9(s)

Advertisements claim that golf scores can be improved by purchasing new golf equipment. Since this is financially impracticable for many senior golfers, one-half stroke per hole may be subtracted for using old equipment.

Please advise all your senior friends of these important rule changes.

Another rule should be regarding sand traps.

As grass cannot grow in the sand trap (although I have seen it in some very poorly maintained golf courses,) it should be designated as ground under repair. As such, the senior golfer should be able to remove his/her ball from such area without being assessed a penalty stroke.

There’s a course up here in East Texas that the bunkers are basically mud pits and all tournaments played there, the rule is just “you can pick it up and drop it equidistant from the hole.”

Edit: if someone were to create a golf thread where we could discuss golf and PGA events/majors, like this post if you would be interested.

Okay I am ecstatic about this thread.

Just bought my tickets last night for my wife and I to go to the Texas Children’s Houston Open at the end of the month. It’ll be my first PGA Tour event to attend. Any suggestions from people that have been before?

I went a few years ago and entered from the west entrance near 14 and pretty much stayed there for most of the time. There’s a spot between 13 and 16 that’s great. You have a video board right there and can watch the drivable par 4 #13th green and walk a few yards and watch guys go for the green on the par 5 #16 with water around the front and both sides. And a few yards away you can watch the guys drive on #14. If you get bored you can walk down #14 over to the par 3 #15 which is a fun hole. They also had restrooms and beer tents right there.

Do you know where I might be able to go to get signatures if I’m there early or late enough?

Many years ago, I went to several Houston Opens at the TPC of the Woodlands. A few of those years, I was a member of the HGA. This was the time Billy Ray was playing, along with Greg Norman, Jack Nicklas, Chi Chi, Tom Watson and many other big names. Since I was one of the younger members, I was a “flying” marshal. This means I walked 18 holes inside the ropes and accompanied one or more members of the group I was assigned to from hole to hole. That was quite an experience. Later in life, I decided to take a golf lesson. Hit a couple dozen shots with the pro watching and he made a couple of suggestions. Hit several more and I turned to him and asked what I should do next. He suggested I take my clubs and put them in a closet. “Then what” I asked. He told me “Sell them” . . . . .

Outside of the practice rounds and Pro-Am on Tuesday-Wednesday your best bet would be hanging around the clubhouse after they sign their scorecard.

Leaderboard at Bay Hill is looking like a bloodbath today.

30+ mph winds and the 2nd green claiming a lot of bogeys.

Some big names throwing up some big numbers. Homa going to miss his 3rd cut in a row.

He’s been struggling so much this year. Makes you wonder if there’s something else going on - I’ve enjoyed watching TGL but I wonder how much of that is a distraction to some of the guys.
