4 team tournament. Lets go.
*Houston
*SIU Edwardsville
*Gonzaga
*Georgia
With all due respect, we could play SIUE 10 times and they would lose 11.
This should be over by halftime, we can rest guys, get the freshmen and back bench some valuable minutes and keep Roberts out til 2nd round.
SIUE are cougars too! Just learned that.
SIUE = Southern Illinois university edwardsville COUGARS…
Another cougar vs cougar game…
SIUE plays at a slow tempo and is a pretty good defensive team for a team from the OVC. I am expecting UH to hold them under 50 points but with garbage time I can see them getting over 50.
5-Minute Scouting Report on SIUE
SIUE is a massive team—significantly bigger than us. They have a 6’9" power forward, a 6’11" center, and two 6’4" guards. Their sixth and seventh men are 6’10" and 6’7", respectively. Their size is their defining advantage.
This size is the key to their success, especially at the mid-major level, where teams are generally smaller. They dominate the boards and make it difficult for opponents to score inside. However, their offense is not strong. They rely on one volume shooter (their pg), while the rest of the team consists of defensive rebounders, catch-and-shoot players, or drive-and-dish options.
Against high-major teams, they struggled significantly (40pt+ losses). They were out-rebounded and exposed in the post, despite their height. It’s worth noting Illinois and Indiana have massive centers, something we don’t have .
This is a horrendous matchup for SIUE. I have no idea how they will score against us. Their bigs are not offensive threats, allowing us to trap as much as we want. They have only one real offensive threat, a 6’1" guard who isn’t even a great shooter. They could realistically have only 17 points at halftime.
Even if their strengths—post defense and rebounding—hold up, it’s still a terrible matchup for them. We are an elite shooting team and don’t rely on post scoring. Their supposed strength might not even be a factor, as we “out-athlete them by a wide margin” ( It’s worth noting that their center is not very mobile). They might not even win the rebounding battle. Their 6’9" power forward is only 180 lbs, so it’s unclear if he can even slow down J’wan. not even adding that i expect us to get a ton of turnovers with few ball handlers
We win by 40+. That’s my prediction.
No. Roberts should play so he gets some reps. But limit him. You don’t’ want him coming in cold to the second round game.
Well, i’m staying home after lunch Thursday
We don’t look past anyone.
One game at a time
11am pacific time on Thursday boooooo
But it’s a night game in Italy, so….
You should always be more proactive and ask for vacation days Thursday and Friday.
1 p.m.? Well that’s a bummer. Will have to catch the highlights on YouTube later…
More rest for Saturday
What about Saturday game time
Too confident are we. Just ask Purdue.
When the experts say: “You can’t simulate UH’s defensive pressure in practice”, it sounds like they are referring to SIU Edwardsville as UH’s opponent.
Oh noes! The fan base is too confident!
