The door that bars the three legged monkey

I like this statement from the article.

These moves also could put Conference USA — or is it Conference DOA? — on life support.

I’ve already heard rumors that the mac is interested in taking MTU and WKU but the they want to see what the sun belt does first. My bet is if the sun belt takes 3 then the mac will make it’s move. WKU and MTU would be great additions for the MAC brand and would definitely give them a shot at being near the top of the G conferences every so often.

I actually hear that JMU crunched the numbers and has realized they can’t afford to move up. So I actually think the Sunbelt takes 4 cusa teams.

That would be odd about JMU if true. They have more money than most G5 programs (squarely in AAC range, would be the highest almost anywhere else). Very high-budget program.

I don’t know either way, I just saw a report that JMU is no longer interested due to financial reasons.

Edit: well i was wrong lol!

CUSA = FIU, La Tech, UTEP, Western Kentucky, & Middle Tennessee.

Con USA perspective.

SunBelt perspective.

I can’t argue with the adds, but 14 is such a bad number.

This does put the Alabama schools in the same division, though.

Map needs to un-color Florida.

Missouri State guy seems bullish on the Grizzlies making the jump. Always thought they might make sense for the Sun Belt, but could work for Conference USA as well.

FIU in the next wave w La Tech on the west side?

I believe these G5 conferences are stopping at 14 teams. It’s probably what ESPN wants.

So far they have completely avoided bringing back any teams that left, and Louisiana Tech (different history, but same idea I think).

To stay a FBS, C-USA have to have at least 6 teams and play a minimum of 8 conference games.

So I guess they could bring in Liberty.

Time for a bunch of FCS teams to move up.

Are you sure about the 8 games? The Big East had only seven (because they had only eight football members). The WAC also had only six conference games at the end, but they were operating on a waiver.

I’m actually curious about other sports. There may be enough football independents out there to take care of the problem… but only if they have a viable non-football conference. Chicago State is about to be conferenceless but apart from that there are no independents. And who with a stable conference situation is going to join a league so obviously centered around football? So maybe instead of calling up FCS teams we’re going to hear about calling up some Division II basketball programs…

I waiting for the MAC to jump in on the action or MACtion and invite a couple of C-USA schools.

That’s the big question mark right now.

SFA and Sam Houston are really getting left behind.

RIP C-USA…

FIU burned a lot of bridges with The Sun Belt when they left. Same with Middle Tennessee.

La Tech attacked UL-Lafayette and UL-Monroe so much over the years that the Sun Belt blackballed them.
