That’s likely because they were ranked
They have an even less chance of being ranked this year. Any school that’s ranked in any conference will generate more viewers.

I don’t know how many times it has to be repeated. The ACC’s problem isn’t a matter of survival. The ACC’s problem is being able to pay its highest revenue-generating schools similar to what SEC schools make.
Florida State, Clemson, UNC, etc. will be able to double if not triple their payouts in the P2.
The bottom line is that ESPN is not going to pay the ACC anything of value without their best brands in the conference, which will entice schools like Louisville and Miami to join the Big 12.
You keep thinking it’s about survival. It’s not about survival. It’s about money.
Oh I got it.
I’m sure that the ACC will survive in some form or fashion even if it loses its best brands.
My only point is that the form that it survives in will be a greatly devalued one that will be well behind the other power conferences money-wise.
Adding the schools that 1927 has mentioned in the past would only bring in VERY low value football brands that won’t come close to making up the money pot that stands to be lost.
The PAC already learned that after the Big 12 snagged the teams that it did, there were no good expansion brands remaining that would make up for the loss of their biggest brands.
In the PAC’s case, that meant that the conference fell apart.
In the ACC’s case, it won’t mean that, simply because there will be too many schools left with no place to go, but it will put the ACC well behind the B1G, SEC, and Big 12, money-wise.
Whether it makes sense to add UConn to the Big 12 is debatable. It would keep them out of the ACC’s reach, and would undoubtedly add some basketball value.
But football, which really drives the train more than anything else…E-gads!!! There’s hardly a worse football program out there, and we are already concerned about getting two or more playoff bids. UConn will NOT help in that regard.
All that said, I’ve only heard this from a couple of Locked On podcasters. None of the top realignment talking heads have said anything about this, so until one of them does, I’ll remain skeptical.
This is probably right, but it’s worth pointing out that they’ve added two schools from the same state within the last 15 years. If the money is there, they’ll go for it.
UNC and Duke ain’t Texas and A&M, though.
Texas and A&M weren’t added together.
Texas is practically an NFL team. They are the exception
If the ACC added UConn, yes, they add a very nice piece for their basketball product but that also furthers the argument that their football product is not all that great. It seems to me that UConn football would actually diminish the ACC football product.
I think that UConn would diminish the football reputation of ANY conference they joined.
That’s why I am very skeptical of what these podcasters are reporting.
Yet they pay them for a projected 1 bid Big 12 that added G5 schools…ok, gotcha.
BTW, that Big 12 leftover nucleus included…
Texas Tech
Baylor
TCU
Oklahoma State
Kansas
Kansas State
Iowa State
West Virginia
Even if 2-4 leave the ACC, they still have a better core than those 8.
Moneywise I’m not sure that’s true. Several of the schools left in the ACC (probably about half, in fact) would rank last in attendance in the Big 12, compared with that group of 8.
Just sayin’!
This is a good point. Would the SEC have taken A&M if they got Texas first?
Eventually yes.
Their brand size in terms of attendance and viewership would be too large to pass up.
100% they would have taken A&M too much money to pass
If the SEC took Missou and Arkansas, they would’ve been glad to have A&M at whatever time they would’ve been available.
Yes, without any doubt.
You’re not getting the bigger picture.
It doesn’t matter what’s left of the ACC.
ESPN wouldn’t pay for the Big 12 without the help of FOX. ESPN is not going to pay $30 Million to the ACC without help of an additional network especially if their best brands are no longer in conference.
Make sense?
Texas joining the SEC before A&M is not/was never a realistic scenario, so it’s kind of moot to assume this hypothetical.
A&M left the Big 12 to get away from Texas
The Big 12 gave UT power and their own network. That doesn’t happen with SEC.
If the SEC took Missou and Arkansas, they would’ve been glad to have A&M at whatever time they would’ve been available
Again the media landscape when A&M joined SEC was so different. Its not a realistic hypothetical assumption
It’s like asking if Big Ten would’ve invited Maryland and Rutgers in 2024. Probably not.
If I had to guess, A&M would’ve joined the Big Ten had Texas joined SEC before A&M
Texas and A&M weren’t added together.
Texas is practically an NFL team. They are the exception
Texas is the most profitable brand in college sports
Largest budget? Not sure how you define profit in CFB.
