Fred Couples

Apologize in advance for posting this on the Football board but this board get more looks than the Golf board.

Extremely proud of Fred Couples:

  • Oldest player to make the cut at the Masters.
  • Tied with Gary Player and Tiger Woods for making 23 consecutive cuts at the Masters and still going strong.

I wish my swing looked like Freddy’s.

If Freddy took it seriously as some of those other guys he could have been one of the all-time greats.

But I’d say he’s had a pretty good life anyway.

His 2003 win here at the SHO is one of my favorite sports memories. It was a whole lot of fun out there.

Go Freddy Go!

Fred had a bad back. The only thing worse for a golfer is a broken wrist. He took the game seriously but his back didn’t allow him to stay at the top.

For sure he has had back issues but I’ve talked to him in person….I’m not making it up.

FWIW, he is very down to earth and a great guy.

Had the first really good golf video game

Yes indeed. Back issues are the beginning to the end. Very proud that he is one of our own.

Go Boom boom! Favorite golf swing of all time. But mods should definitely consider doing what the other board does. One forum for all posts.

Go to Latest and you essentially get that.

Too bad we can’t say that about all of our Coogs.

I think back issues is what ended Billy Ray’s career. Another good dude off the links. Great Coog!

Yes. Serious back issues in golf are often career ending injuries or at best/worst greatly limit golfer’s potential. I was in the business for 13 years or so. What did it for me (never great) was my rotator cuff. Love the game but how so cruel. You need to play a minimum of two rounds a week to be decent. You need time, lots of time.

Wrist injury ended his career.

They were saying that the young Aggie amateur Bennett has a swing that might give him back issues later in life.

Yeah, that kid doesn’t hold back.

I say ride her till she bucks you off.

That kid will be a millionaire several times over before the back gets him.

It’s been so long ago and I don’t remember which venue it was, but Freddy was in first place after a couple of days and was on the driving range and his back froze up on his backswing and he had to literally be carried off the range. His game has suffered ever since, especially when it’s cold and wet.

He is my favorite golfer and I always pull for him, though I understand his best days are behind him. He has a couple more shots at the Masters and I would love for him to make 2 more cuts – and let me dream here – and even win one for the ages.

Fred made a good career out of pure talent.
