Folks need to chill out

What showed up on the the field was an embarrassment to the university of Houston.

I’m just going to leave this here…

Seems like it man. I swear Cougars have low expectations. I feel like if a man is getting paid $4M a year, he needs to have a game plan to beat UNLV. Is that too much to ask? For some, apparently so.

Just a reminder that if you go back to 2019, CDH’s first season, you saw similar excuses.

Listening to some of the press conferences, the goal did seem to be “play a lot of guys”.

Was going out and winning the game ever mentioned?

2025 in San Antonio, Coogs win it all for first NC in a sport other than golf.

Book it!

Well, what showed up in the stands for opening day for football and the CWF era was equally embarrassing, except for the students.

If that’s the case, then you have to incorporate WINNING into something if the final outcome was not achievable (which I think it was) but using CWF’s rationale he should have said something like:

  • we played to win individual plays (Won/lost the play)
  • We played to win series, with different ‘depth chart’ teams
  • We played to win individual quarters which in that case, they went 1-3 for the night. they won the 4th quarter 7-3

When the Astros were at their very bottom, Luhnow mentioned that he wanted to align WINNING all throughout the minor league system so when his players moved up, they were used to WINNING something

They play Kansas in week 3.

That will be a good measuring stick against another Big 12 school that is top 1/3 in the conference.

I made this same point in another thread (I think), but I don’t think UNLV resembled that OSU team that had TWO NFL Hall of Fame running backs.

The offense was a disjointed mess in that game, too, but my recollection is that we at least put together a few drives with the Dacus-Powers rotation - don’t remember if Andre got in that game or not. I do remember celebrating 1st downs like they meant something.

If this season ends up progressing like that one did, I’ll be satisfied. That team was competitive in almost every game after that first one even thought they didn’t win many. I didn’t see anything in Game 1 that gives me much confidence that will happen, but here’s hoping. :slightly_smiling_face:

We barely beat Sam Houston State at home. We gave up 578 yards to them. Sam Houston State. Let that sink in.

Also note…Andre Ware completed a school record 25 passes that game. LOL. My how times have changed.

Yes. And I Can’t believe I am typing this but that was Herman’s focus when he was here.

I don’t have to let anything sink in - I was there for all of them. The Sam Houston game was a win, and I don’t believe in making excuses for those. :slightly_smiling_face:

I just realized that the 1987 game against SHSU brought the Coogs up to .500 against them.

How do you think it would have played out if we had opened against Sam Houston St. this year? They whipped Rice.

That SHSU game was my first Coogs game. HS freshman… friend’s family brought me. Beach Boys concert after game

(shudders)

Must’ve thought it was preseason…

We were 100% happy with cks those years

The complaint those years were we needed to get rid of Alvin brooks and get an assistant who could recruit… (like urlic maligi who put together the elite class for dickey)
We were coming in top 3 in the league on teams made up of mostly barely recruited juco …
everyone loved Sampson and wanted to see what he would have done with better recruits

We weren’t there but everyone knew we had something special … context matter those were NIT but the 2nd NIT team highest rated teams in 30 years at the time… the penders NCAA team was an auto bid team that wasn’t on the bubble

I can post like 4 articles saying we were rebuilt in those NIT years

Yeah, if you weren’t happy with what was happening with basketball, then you weren’t paying attention in the years leading up to Sampson getting here.

There’s always gonna be a few knuckleheads screaming to fire the coach after a tough loss (or even a close win, for some clowns), but the vast majority were pretty happy, even with the rough first year, when he had less than 6 months to get a team together and ready to play the first game.

Thanks for reiterating wtf I said. I appreciate it.

context on “there” matter…

we were rebuilt, we werent contenders…some could argue we are there yet as we have no title… but you’d still say we are rebuilt?
