Elmo Wright Hall of Fame Presentation

The National Football Foundation will be in town Saturday to present Elmo with his Hall of Fame certificate and on campus salute during the Navy game. Hope he can still do his Touchdown Dance

CBY had some great stories of our recruiting of EW. Seems some of the UT big cigars were opposed to offering him because of his color.

I will always remember when he scored a touchdown and did his dance in front of me in the Astrodome

Their BOD did not vote to integrate until 1968, the year we tied them 20-20 in Austin. Our board allowed us to integrate in 1963-64

College Football Hall of Fame electee Elmo Wright (Houston - Class of 2020) was honored with an NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, presented by Fidelity Investments, during the Cougars’ game against Navy on Sept. 25. During an era when Houston ranked among the nation’s leaders in rushing, Wright managed to leave his mark as a receiver and remains in the top five of nearly every receiving category in school history. During the NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salutes, each inductee returns to to his respective school to be honored for their upcoming College Football Hall of Fame induction. The official induction will take place during the 63rd NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas Dec. 7 at the ARIA Resort & Casino Las Vegas.

Probably the best wide out we ever had here. Had he not banged up that knee I think he would have been all pro for the Chiefs.
And oh yeah, one of the nicest people I ever had the privy of interviewing.

Was he the first Sweeny Bulldog to play in the NFL?

Name slips my mind but there was another receiver before Mo from Sweeny who went to USC and played in the league for awhile
