Is it a surprise Rhym and Carr didn’t win starting spots after being touted transfers? I didn’t keep up with camp news so just wondering.
Somewhat. York reportedly had a great camp, and they’ll use a lot of two TE sets. Rhym is talented but only a sophomore. Carter is a senior who started two years ago and led Utah State in interceptions.
Thanks for posting!
I’ve been waiting to see what our rebuilt O-Lines and D-Lines look like.
Starting with the O-Line. There’s a lot of body weight there. Three individuals (Tank Jenkins, Jake Wiley, and Peyton Dunn) have P4 or FBS starting experience. I hope that they can mesh.
On the D-line, I’m a bit surprised to see Stillman not starting, though Carlos Allen was a FBS starter as well at Kennesaw State. It’s interesting to me that they have both a “Nose Guard” and a “Nose Tackle.” Someone explain to me how that scheme works.
At LB, it’ll be interesting to see how Batton comes in and performs, and whether Brandon Mack can recover from injury.
To be honest…I’m surprised to see Maliq Carr and Teagan Wilk NOT starting, given their transfer hype. Especially Carr, given that he was twice B1G offensive player of the week at the TE position. It’ll be interesting to see the two tight end sets with both Carr and York in the game.
With Mews and Massey…we could have a DEADLY return game!
I hope UH uses some two TE sets in the Red Zone. Tough for the defense to cover two big TEs in the endzone. Aren’t they thinking of using Carr for a fade pattern? I see TD or PI.
Carter has never been a talent issue. The guy is a really good football player. It was how much he loved the game. Will he put the work in every day. Glad to see that he had a great camp and is starting for us.
Love that Houston doesn’t do the “or” crap.
We used to not too long ago lol
Geez. Recognize three folks on offense and none on defense. Quite a roster change. I would be worried for the first couple games.
Jake is a starter. Or he isn’t. Nice.
Our last defensive coordinator, despite his heralded history, was not very good at his job. There was a reason the defensive line was the only respectable component of the previous staff’s defense, and it was because of the position coach that was there. Other than that, we probably had the laziest millionaire coaches in the P4 the last few years, in both recruiting and coaching.
Take the depth charts with a grain of salt in the preseason. That’s what i’ve learnt under Holgi.
Little surprised you don’t recognize AJ Haulcy, given that he was our top tackler from last season.
But yeah, otherwise, there are A LOT of new faces on defense and O-Line.
I sure hope that they are better than what we had last year, and can mesh quickly.
I agree. Guess I do remember his name. I get the feeling we can only improve in certain areas. Guess they will double Manjack.
Some BEEF on the OL!
Is Juwon Gatson related to former UH Willie Gatson?
I don’t know, but I’m guessing not. He’s from Alabama originally, and transferred in from a Mississippi JUCO.
