Anyone been working on any types of cool new logos for our inaugural big 12 season? I’m hopeful new merch will come out between July and September, but in the interim, I’ve been brainstorming ideas for my buddies who are fellow season ticket holders with me to possibly rock on a shirt or hat. Please share anything you’ve made here! l kick us off.
Also Had this one I had made for my buddies and I as kind of a group/tailgate shirt (they’re both Hispanic:
Nice work !
Go B12 Coogs !
I appreciate the creativity and expression of loyalty to the Coogs, but, if there is anything that University of Houston athletics does not need, it’s a new logo. While the Big 12 logo will be added to just about everything associated with the Athletic Department, it will be an additional logo, not a new one per se.
I tried tracing out a vintage UH Logo on Blender a couple of months ago (lol Blender is super hard to learn from scratch!) to try an make it 3D and then animate.
Didn’t continue past just tracing it, but would love to see what else you and your buddies got cooking…maybe we can collaborate?
It would give me greater motivation to consistently follow thru all these solo side-projects.
Changing the logo for Houston, or any organization, dilutes the value of the brand. A logo should be instantly, even unconsciously, recognized. People who cannot read a word of English recognize the Coca-Cola logo.
I’m not saying we need a new one, simply looking for creative fan made ideas for individual/artistic designs that celebrate our inaugural year. this would also be for private use for like tailgating groups/ groups of friends who want to celebrate their little posse(s) of fellow season ticket holders for instance.
Literally not trying to change it for Houston. I think you people misunderstand the intent here lol
Looks cool man! Appreciate you sharing! I’ll definitely post more once I get it, and also the final product once my buddies and I get that far.
I like the idea of coming up with our own look for the “UH” that doesn’t look so much like UK. Keep it up, that’s a good start! My personal preference is for the letters to be offset though.
Thanks, but to clarify, this is not my design. I just traced it thru a free video-editing program called Blender.
The University of Houston actually used this logo back in the late 70’s or early 80’s? (Someone pls correct me if I’m wrong here), but not as an official school logo. I believe it was used in the Athletic Dept. or at least, that’s where I saw it in an old yearbook.
I’ll try posting the picture if I can find it. It was in black & white and it was a banner behind the track team, iirc.
the 'brutalist" side by side UH was a marketing creation for the 50th anniversary (1977) year long events, and stayed around in heavy use through the 80s, when main campus was re-branded “university park” up until Margaurite Barnett passed away in 1992. My mom was big in alumni leadership those years, and I recall the mktg. team taking cues from the NASA rebranding of the same era.
Wow, thanks for the info.
It’s interesting because I recently saw a short design video clip on YouTube about Art Deco, and remember the term ‘brutalist’ being used at one point. I’ll have to read more about it.
I’m for using the Coca-Cola logo if it helps with NIL.
think downtown Main library building, Jones Hall or the old HISD “Taj Mahal” on Richmond at Wesleyan, It was a short lived, concrete heavy architectural style of the late 60s-mid 70s. IMHO Hofheinz was a form of Brutalist Architecture, as was original Student Center
