Countries that are NOT ready for prime time!

Gang,

Looking at the total medal count, a few realities become evident.

Certain countries like USA (40 golds, 126 total) and China (40 golds, 91 total) are definitely “big time” or “prime time.”

But consider this. India, with a population of 1.4 billion…won ZERO golds and only one silver…and only six total medals…that’s fewer golds than Saint Lucia, and fewer total medals than countries like Ireland and Israel.

India is definitely NOT ready for prime time, and definitely NOT yet “big time.”

Other small (population wise) countries like Australia and the Netherlands appear to be fighting WELL above their weights!

What gives?

GDP per capita is a big factor.

US 8
Netherlands 10
Australia 18
China 72
India 120

That’s PART of it.

But China at #72 still ROCKS the Olympics.

Simple function of wealth and population. And communist government
that pours in a lot of effort to win the ideology war much as the old USSR did.

Everything comes down to money.

Somehow North Korea hasn’t gotten its Olympic Act together.

What happened to Germany and Russia use to be Olympic powers back in the day

Russia, of course, was banned.

But yeah. Germany ain’t ready for prime time either.

Maybe they’ll do better in the winter.

India doesn’t give a sh— about the Olympics. What’s the problem? I love cricket and I have a favorite team. I’ve seen more matches than the Indian family that owns the convenience store at the edge of my neighborhood. India has bigger fish to fry like 15 languages and dialects and radical Pakistan across the border pointing nuclear weapons at Mumbai.

Well, I guess the addition of Cricket in the 2028 Olympics will give them a shot at ONE gold medal!

They won’t care about that either. India is an amazing place, especially the north (IMO) but some societies don’t prioritize sports.

Oh trust me. THEY’LL CARE!!!

The T20 World Cup is a BIG DEAL in South Asian countries!

It’ll be the same for Olympic cricket!

I’m talking about the general population in Delhi. They might watch five minutes per viewer.

I think you’ve got that wrong too. I used to be a South Asia Foreign Area Officer. The Indian Cricket League has a following like MLB in the USA.

When it comes to that ONE sport, THEY’LL CARE!!!

India doesn’t gove a sh— about international sports.

Except Cricket.

You’ll see!

The cricket field down 290 near Praire View seems to be very popular.

I’m talking about the composite of international sports. Americans will watch any sport. Curling, gymnastics, shot put, field hockey, etc. When you grow up worshipping sport in general there’s a higher likelihood you’ll be good in one or more

Indians will not f—- watch Curling. They don’t worship sports in general. I brought up Cricket to demonstrate a general disinterest in sports in general (cricket being one of their most popular.)

As I said, Cricket is the exception to that.

You’ll see.

That’s their best chance for a gold in 2028.

But your point was they weren’t ready for prime time due to the medal count. Their overall medal count will be low at the next Olympics, too. And the one after, and the one after that. If sports are your religion then they won’t be ready for prime time in your eyes. In their eyes it’s a bit different. They could say we aren’t ready for prime time because our public school students aren’t great at Math.
