Big 12 / SEC / B10 Expansion Thread (Part 2)

Because $$$$$$$$$$

Whew! Thank you Fox for paying up for Oregon and UW

Monty Show is saying SMU boosters are ready to pay $200 million to SMU to FULLY fund them in the ACC fornthe next 5 years. In this deal, SMU would draw $0 from ACC for the first 5 years.

WSU knows their next conference is the MWC.

Why doesn’t SMU use the $200m on NIL and get the guaranteed G5 CFP slot every year? Is that what they want by joining the ACC?

This is just sad.

I know all the SWC teams were guilty of some violations, but SMU bought their way to national power, and now they’re attempting to buy their way into the ACC.

It’s a slap in the face to schools who actually win championships and contribute to their conferences. I’m talking UH, Cincy, TCU, SDSU, UCF. These are schools deserving of the jump.

I know money rules over us all, but it’s just a bad reflection of where CFB is heading.

I think they know this is the last chance for ANYONE to get into a power conference. SDSU is wildin’ out because they know it too. It’s a desperate moment for the G5’s. I think the idea is for these investors to foot the bill in exchange for NIL, FSU to get any increase to ACC revenues, and it’s the only way (and last chance) SMU can get the P4 designation.

Everyone wants in a power conference because of money. If SMU doesn’t need money and just need access to CFP
they will soon have without a conference move.

In this case, I think the ACC GOR actually serves to make the investment more attractive to the SMU donors. SMU would be locked in with the current ACC teams until 2036.

SDSU would’ve been a P5 if the PAC expanded as soon as USC/UCLA left

I think SDSU absolutely s**t the bed by prematurely leaving the MWC without a formal invite because now they’re stuck with a $30M exit fee, but SDSU’s fate was ultimately the fault of bad PAC leadership

At the same time, had PAC expanded immediately, then the Big 12 wouldn’t be in the position it’s in now. It was either us or them, but still, SDSU was at least deserving if it.

SMU? They’re trying to Dallas Oil Money their way in and it’s embarrassing

Ehhh
. The death penalty will hurt SMU indefinitely.

UT has every resource in the world and still can’t win championships. If there’s any team that should be contending year in year out, it’s Texas.

Money doesn’t always equal athletic success, and if you depend on money to win games then you lead to a culture problem. A G5 team paying P5 NIL money to a select number of athletes will lead to a very bad locker room.

Gang,

Looks like ND is pushing the ACC hard to add Stanford and Cal.

ACC is about to have an unhappy ND to go along with an unhappy FSU

Both of which are already only halfway committed to the conference. It’s gonna be a rough 13 years if the GOR holds.

Maybe they say

ND if you become a full member #16 then we will add CAL and Stanford as #17 & 18

Surely, there has to be a ND clause in the ACC contract that gets them a renegotiation

That take has been around forever. Trying to get g5 teams to permanently sell what little brand they have left for nothing in return.

Funny how some people in the sports world have no understanding of the responsibility side of a contract. They only know the revenue side.

“But
but
they’re making more than us! Why do we have to comply with a contract where we’re not the top money earner???”

Ever heard of alternative revenue streams? BTW, FSU, your attorneys suck.

Wait a minute, ND is a full voting member of ACC?!? No wonder FSU and Clemson are cranky

Makes sense.

As far as I know, all of their sports except football (Indy), and hockey (B1G), are in the ACC.

It begs the question, “Why did FSU sign the GOR in the first place?”
