Big 12 / Pac 12 / B10 Expansion Thread (Part 1)

There media contract is going be like AAC’s maybe touch more without USC/UCLA.

This would be sweet.

So far money hasn’t been a GOR… but I don’t think ND has that… I don’t know what the penalty to get out of the ACC is but it’s probably worth paying. (It’s an option UVA doesn’t have.)

That was included in the payout estimate. IIRC it had PAC, ACC, and Big 12 around the same $50 million payouts with the BIG and SEC having almost or over $100 million payouts by 2029.

Here’s the article and estimates: Navigate projects SEC/Big Ten per-school payouts $40-50 million ahead of rest of P5 by 2026

Would a serious alliance between the B12 and PAC replete with contract suffice to stabilize and strengthen both? Or would that do nothing?

That’s correct.

And without the LA market, the PAC payout will now certainly be less than the Big 12’s.

NO P5 team will accept an invite to that.

Maybe the PAC can add MWC teams.

This conference will spread from the Eastern time zone to the Pacific time zone.

11am kickoff games for UCF and WV and 9pm kickoff games against Cal and Stanford.

The more they can work together the better of both will be. #TheNewAlliance #ButLetsCallItSomethingElse

Why merge? Take the value schools, leave the rest. Does anyone want to add programs that drag down the average value, hence payout? Don’t grab bad bets to get to a number, whether 16 or 20. Makes zero sense to our future media partners, too.

Ah yes, the nvgt.com blog post estimates. Not exactly an authority.

That chart says a lot. PAC money was low before this exodus. I could only imagine how bad the $ would be Adding some G5 teams.

I think a merger is the only hope for the remaining Pac teams.

scrap Cal for Utah, in conference Holy War is a ratings getter. Only add Colorado if you can steal N.

This Pod for UH is my idea of a good time.

Definitely think it would strengthen both. You’d have seven teams that finished in the AP Top 25 in football and five that made the Sweet 16. Assuming Washington and Oregon are part of the conference, you would have eight or nine of the top 21 DMAs.

Sometimes a whole is worth more than the sum of its parts.

One in the hand is two in the bush.

The more we fought each other the more the networks win. If we try to take their teams and fail, they survive and the networks can play us off one another (“We don’t need you because we can just get the other conference.”)

This chart is really all that matters. It’s what is driving everything. USC and UCLA couldn’t stomach not being in the big money and that’s why they moved. Pure and simple.

It will be the only thing that matters in for the Big 12 and PAC. Anybody who sites regional rivalries, travel, on-field performance, religious schools, politics as a a major driver is wrong. Those are minor considerations

It’s about the best payout scenario. That’s why I think a merger instead of poaching is most likely. The merged conference could be looking at north of $50 million… maybe 60 or 70. PAC money on its own would be atrocious going forward.

Hm, if we recall the presentation by Tony Altimore, USC/UCLA fit the profile of the B1G. We can prob extrapolate to predict or suggest other alignments. UT-Austin should be in B1G or a formerly strong PAC really so that may not completely fit. . As far as we’re concerned, can we sell our potential/upward trajectory + backing of uncle Tilman to potential buyers?

(Sorry for lack of pixels on the screenshot )

You/we have no idea. Like we did not have an idea before the news broke out today.
Oregon, the swoosh holds the cards. Could the PAC poach BIG12 schools that is possible. I do not think it will happen but at this juncture all scenarios are possible.
Let’s all hope this is not a repeat of the big east demise.
Does the BIG10 want to get into the Houston market?
It is a valid question considering what is on the table.

“Look network, if you sign with us you can have as much content as you need. We’ve got at least three teams in each time zone, and more than that in most. Or don’t sign with us and you get nothing. Not even Cal vs Oregon State. Enjoy trying to sell your streaming service with Conference USA. Middle Tennessee vs New Mexico State will be a real ratings winner I’m sure.”
