Big 12 / Pac 12 / B10 Expansion Thread (Part 1)

The current deal is $7MM per team, but who knows what it will be on next contract?

Sounds like it.

With the PAC 12 on unstable ground, could this be a back door way of SMU being absorbed into the B12?

SDST acting really confident that they’re getting an invite from B12.

How so? Pac schools are going to jump ship when the media deal payout is significantly less than $30mm per

I think the key is the perceived instability, especially with OR and WA begging for a B10 invite. It may not be this year or next, but If OR and WA bolt, it destabilizes the entire conference and the PAC12 House of Cards folds.

If that was the case, I would select AZ and CO and let the others fend for themselves. SMU can have a bitter rivalry game with North Texas State. You know when those two meet, you can throw out the record book!

We could always take SDSU, the AZ schools, and SMU.

Utah and CO would be great places for road games, but the other way, we lock down the PHX market, add SoCal, so we have a pacific time zone presence year round, as opposed to the crappy 7 months worth we get in AZ, and SMU simply prevents the PAC from getting a foothold in TX/ Central TZ

No smu please

10 M a year is embarrassing and such a gut punch from the PAC 12 to SMU. Theyre literally their life line and they’re getting crumbs just to have the P5 monicker.

PAC12 is going to lose 2 more teams eventually. 6 if two of those teams are smart and join B12 before the conference collapses. I admire they stayed together this long to wait on actions by this guy but it was a stupid move. PAC had all the power to kill B12 and take us instead of B12 and they didn’t.

I want Oregon and Washington. But i want them on a long term with no extra clauses with a high payout if they leave. I’ll take Utah and Arizona as well. Or Stanford and Cal. Everyone else will stay in P12 and they’re going to be the new MWCAAC

My SMU buddy has heard it will be 35mm to 40mm per legacy school and 20mm per for SMU/SDSU.

No. They add zero value to the Big 12.

B12 will not take anymore G5 schools. Patience is key in this game. GK isn’t getting the magic $31.6mm with these additions.

OUW is not going to sign a long term deal that is an equal share across all 10-12 members. They will want an unequal share and an alternative buyout clause. The other ADs will not agree to that just to save the conference. At least 2 of the 4 corners will break for the Big 12.

There are way too many layers and moving parts to this just like OUT’s early exit from the conference. No way it all aligns unless everyone in the PAC 12 is feeling charitable and hunky-dory with each other. We’re headed to P3 and Big 12 is the life raft for the remaining PAC schools not names Oregon or Washington.

The Pac couldn’t get anywhere close to $300M total for the remaining 10. Your buddy’s numbers would be $350 for the 10 on the low side and also mean SMU and SDSU bring more value to the deal than the existing members could on their own. Very doubtful. The Pac is desperately trying to get the existing 10 to match the B12’s $31M per. Someone is going without pie for a while.

Your buddy heard false rumors planted by wishful thinkers. Of course he could just be blowing smoke.

SMU fans are very delusional right now.

I tend to agree with all you cats on his claims lol. But I wanted it in the ether to call back when the dust settles.

After being in the desert for so long, I wish SMU well and I hope they get out of the desert as well.

If 2 of the 4 corners come to the Big12, the PAC10 will have to backfill with 4-6 G5s and that will be a big hit on the previously reported $24.6M TV deal.

That means Yormark will get quite a few phone calls from the west letting him pick a choose who he wants.

Since the Pac-12 TV deals expires June 30, 2024, the Big12 could temporarily have 20 teams for fall 2024.

6 teams from PAC10 and OUT

Hopefully OUT will be gone by 2024.

FWIW, Disney’s “new” CEO is on a cost cutting binge and cited the company was blinded by trying to grow subscribers. Can see that trickling down to ESPN after Disney said they don’t want to spin off. Media deal dollars may have dried up from one Pac lifeline
