Basis for disdain for Taylor Swift is?

This. I wouldn’t know if not told. It’s not a knock on her or her music.

Disdain for Taylor Swift?
The constant media coverage. Enough already.
IMO she is an average singer. Christina Aguilera again IMO is a billion times better. She is much more versatile and her voice is on a different planet.

I wonder how their sales figures compare. I know they both have sold a lot. I also remember there was a time when Christina got similar press coverage to Taylor. Thanks for your insight though. I have no opinion on which is a better singer. I would have to sit down and compare but I do know Christina is a phenomenal singer.

I don’t think it’s much of comparison talent wise or business/sales wise. Christina is a much more talented singer. But Swift could buy and sell her at this point in terms of monetary success.

First of all, not sure Aguilera is better as either as musician, singer, or songwriter.

Second of all, Taylor seems to be a better role model for young women.

Good family girl. Squeaky clean image.

AND….she seems to be a better fashion icon and be cuter as well.

Aguilera seems skankier.

Skankier? Go ahead tell us how you describe Christina Aguilera as skankier. You understand these are entertainers.

Yes, and some entertainers appear to be skankier than others.

Aguilera absolutely OOZES skank!

Obsessed by skank?

To be honest, I watched most of the Chiefs game, and the time spent spotlighting TS
was probably less than a minute out of a 3 hour game. All famous people get some
minimal acknowledgment at sporting events.

The disdain for TS is coming from a group that resents her political views imho.

I don’t see this thread as political per se, but I can understand how some may see it as on the edge.

What group are you writing about?
Who told you this group exists?

Sorry, I really don’t think those are serious questions; however I’ll partially agree
this thread is on the edge of an allowed posting on this site now.

I think you all are looking at this in a very black and white manner.

First of all, the overall social norms when artists like Madonna, Christina Aguilera, or Britney Spears were in their prime was much more accepting of sexualized pop stars. If not that, then the social norms during that time were at the very least tolerant where it didn’t receive backlash.

Secondly, Christina Aguilera’s image was intentionally sexual because that’s probably what her personality was like at the time. Same with Madonna and Britney. And you also have to realize that record labels were pushing this image as well which is why Taylor Swift wasn’t super big outside of the country music sphere when she was younger.

Taylor Swift has been in the industry for over a decade now, close to reaching 2 decades. She’s only recently become this larger than life personality, and she hasn’t reached the level of fame that Christina Aguilera had until the last couple of years if we’re being honest. Madonna, Christina and Britney were in their late teens early 20s at their peaks. Taylor is in her 30s.

Taylor also came from a different background than Christina. A much more conservative background considering she has country music roots.

That being said, the difference between Taylor and those other artists I mentioned is that Taylor Swift is not sexualized. She’s not a sex icon and never has been. If Christina and Taylor became famous at the exact same time, they would most likely have completely different fan base demographics.

Where Taylor excels is being able to craft an image that is family friendly enough for child fans, but also relatable enough for adult fans. She also has a relatively normal image that many women can project themselves into.

That’s why the Taylor Swift machine is working.

Some good points.

Yes some good, really good points

When I was coaching we had a couple of heavy metal drummers, very popular drummers. The image that you see on tv, movie screen is often “packaged”
Christina “acts” but I am 100% with you when that same package is over sexualized. Moreover all acts including rap denigrating women should be banned.

Banned from where? Especially with music, the claim of artistic expression would prevail in almost all cases. People buy the music, so somebody will make it and sell it. Nothing to be done about it.

Artistic expression?
Did you write artistic expression?
Writing about abusing women or raping women is artistic expression?
What kind of a message does that send to 10 years old boys?
