Babe did it while eating a bunch of donuts though. That’s more impressive.
Didn’t Ruth also supposedly drink a six pack before games?
If so, then that’s even MORE impressive!!!
Ruth did not get to just DH.
Ruth also did it against plumbers, electricians, and janitors.
No because his competition was drunk too
I wonder how he would have done with training and scouting tools in use today (both for and against him).
EXACTLY!
Not to mention segregation…
Y’all are high if you think Ruth wouldn’t be a stud in todays game or Otani a stud in Ruth’s era
I’m sure that they would be … BUT…
Imagine what Ruth could have done with access to modern training, nutrition, and physical development methods…not to mention…access to the 'roids that the 1990s sluggers had in abundance!!!
O/T…what’s best all-round player and greatest hitter IYO…what Ohtani has done in such a short span is almost mythical…50/50 club and all, hoping he stays healthy long term
Best All-Round – Willie Mays
greatest Hitter – Ted Williams
He would probably have been one of those dudes who would have taken a pass on all of that - kind of like John Kruk. He might have taken speedbombs or something though.
Anyway, countering those potential benefits, he would have also faced much more thorough scouting and pitchers who were better able to exploit weaknesses. He might have been more healthy and/or stronger, but it’s hard to say if he would have been comparatively better.
How do you know Ruth could hit a slider?
This is a pretty good debate list.

For my money the greatest hitter of all time is Hank Aaron but you can’t go wrong with anyone on this list.
Aaron along with 755 HRs had 3777 career hits and a career batting average of .305.
Just wait til the guy starts pitching again. Hes a better pitcher than hitter. Hope he can stay healthy.
Barry Bonds or Ken Griffey Jr for me.
Bonds was great but tainted because of steroids.
Junior was awesome. He was must see TV.
