In the fine line we walk between politics, common sense, and news, here is an article that doesn’t mention anti-semitism, but what else could be behind this decision from last year:

This guy being honest about actually being antisemitic just calling himself anti-zionist as a cover.

How sad is it that my first thought was “How long until it gets vandalized”?

Mind boggling Ted talk.

The university’s FDR Dilemma: Why campus leaders cannot confront antisemitism (thehill.com)

Yeah, that’s about right.

I wasn’t sure if this was the right thread to put this post or if I should create another topic, but here it goes.

Sunday night, I went to a presentation given by an Israeli organization called The Kibbutz Movement. They are a co-op that responds to the needs over about 260 Kibbutzim (Hebrew plural of Kibbutz). As you can imagine, their needs are immense right now. A director from the Kibbutz movement, along with my cousin are traveling around raising money for the needs of these kibbutzim. They are also bringing awareness to what is going on in northern Israel where over 60,000 people have been evacuated from their individual kibbutz. Why is this so important? The kibbutzim are responsible for over 50% of the countries agriculture (beef, poultry, vegetables, etc.). One of the goals of Hamas (besides kill as many Jews as possible) was to disrupt the food supply in Israel. As we now know, Hezbollah, started firing rockets into northern Israel on October 8. They have been under attack for 11 months and have only relatively recently been talked about in the news.

A woman named Adele Raemer, who moved to Israel in 1975 spoke about her first hand experience of October 7. She lived on a Kibbutz that was located on the border of Gaza. To say it was emotional is an understatement. She was supposed to go on a pre-dawn hike with a couple of friends to take some sunrise pictures. At 5:30 in the morning, she bailed on her friends. That decision saved her life. Her friends weren’t so lucky. She started getting messages on her phone to get into her safe room. The rocket siren also started going off. When you hear the siren, you have 0 - 10 seconds to get into the safe room. Every house on the kibbutz has a safe room. The problem with the safe rooms is they don’t lock. They were designed to keep you safe in a rocket attack, not from keeping people out of the room. She was huddled in the room for 11 hours with her son. Her son in law was in his own safe room with his 3 kids (her grandkids) all under 8 years old. Terrorists entered his home and he was able to shoot and kill them to keep his family safe. Adele’s daughter was in her own safe room and is still alive.

Adele showed a list of people she knew that was either killed or taken hostage. It was a long list.

She showed videos with accompanying audio of their phone calls to their version of 911. Her friends that went on the pre-dawn hike were part of that audio and video. The husband had been shot in the head and killed, she was wounded and physically recovered.

The stories went on and on. Adele spoke for about an hour. She probably could have spoken for 2.

During the Q&A, a friend of mine asked a question I was going to ask. Telling this story was so painful, how does she do this multiple times a week? Her answer was that this is part of her healing process. She wants as many people as possible to hear her story. After the Holocaust, it took many years for the deniers to start speaking out. After October 7, it only took hours. This is her never forget mission.
