40 years ago, Carl Lewis won the Olympic 100m in 9.92 seconds. Today, that time wouldn’t even place 8th. Yet, the winning time has only improved by 0.17 seconds (to 9.79) over four decades.

Despite advancements in sports technology and performance management, that’s just a 1.3% improvement.

In the pursuit of excellence, every fraction counts—and each one must be earned!

What has recently changed in the sport are the spikes types. This has allowed for much faster times. With “regular” spikes these “new” times might be much closer to when Carl ran.
I posted it in another T &F thread. U of H, Carl, Leroy, Carol, Dawn and others worldwide immensely benefited from the legendary Mr. Tom Tellez. The best T & F Coach of all time.
