Every early poll or Bracket has UH from #4-#8 in the nation.
But several posters think we are overmatched, didnāt recruit well enough, etc.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinionsā¦I happen to think in basketball we underestimate our team and overestimate other teams.
Donāt know how much of a barometer the Australia trip will be but letās see what happens.

i think its the oppositeā¦ people just rank us because āsampsonāā¦ UH actually used a clip of that in the big 12 hype video they made ā¦
three man weave and cbs (what was used for the big 12 video) have done podcast about their preseason rankings and they were frank that the roster didint look great, they are just rankings because āsampsonāā¦ weāve built benefit of the doubt
if i was a generalist ranker i would do the same,
us as fans arent just going āsampson will figure it outā and actually look at the roster.to them āsampson replaces players all the timeāā¦to us who follow āweve never been this inexperienced at our big coreā āwe are also stepping up in leagueā āwe have no proven spacer at 4, something weve had every single sampson yearāā¦ we follow the team closer so its hard to just say weāll be eliteā¦
also i dont think anyone thinks weāll be over-matchedā¦ i think the context has just been ātitle contendersāā¦ even the worst comments ive seen is āwe have a team thatāll just get knocked out the 1st weekendā it was a negative comment but they still had us a tournament teamā¦ ive noted at worst we are still a top 5 big 12 teamā¦ the antsiness is just wanting to win a title before Sampson retires
and about Australia, australia is probably the BEST international location to get tested and use as a barmoter. bahamas/any island/south america/asian all end up being blowout games (some are lucky to get 1 competive game vs the national team)ā¦ Canada is mostly blowout games except carlton but even theyve not been good the last 2 yearsā¦europe has good teams (the euroleague) but they dont play ncaa teams, you mostly get the developmental teamsā¦ australia if you schedule good, you can actually test your self (if you want) as you can schedule NBL teams ā¦ st marys played 3 nbl teams last years (They ended up top 25), all their games were extremely close, 1 even went to OTā¦ it was a good barometer and an early sign aiden mahoney would be a star
highlights from the OT game (*the nbl teams will be missing 2-3 players as international players arent required to be there in the offseason)
sampson says he wasnt to get destroyed in australiaā¦ we play 4 games, we know 1 is the national team (which st marys didnt even play)ā¦ if the other 3 are NBL, we should be in for some competitive games even some losses

The only reason people donāt like our roster is because Sampson didnāt go out and bring in a big. We all saw what UConn did in the tournament and we think thatās what we need to get over the hump.
I hope Francis looked at UConn play and realize that if he keeps his hands straight up instead of swiping at.the ball, he wonāt get a lot a lot of the fouls he made last season.
What we missed last season was a second person to sniff out offensive rebounds. We only had one player on the floor at a time who hustled for offensive rebounds and that is why we lost to Miami.
I know we are going to take lumps during the season, but I expect Samson to have the team playing itās best come tournament time.

He said he wants to get destroyed? Or he wants the Austrailians to expose the teams weaknesses? I feel like there is a difference in the two statements.

Went from getting no respect in some peopleās eyes to when we starting getting that respect and now we are overrated because of our respect.
Stop all that nonsense. We are a very good program and thatās really all that matters. We have a great roster and a great culture with the possibilities of making another run and being very good. There are too many variables to say how far we will get but I like our chances to be in a good position.

As for Australia he just wants teams, anywhere, capable of exposing our weaknesses.
