You saying they won’t sell out those Rice, UTSA, and UNT games? lol
We were much more nationally relevant than Memphis and handled them when we needed to beat them. I don’t see the relevance in the comparison just because they got up for their SB level game in conference.
We need our bigs to play roles so straight up comparisons to what other teams have doesn’t concern me. Will we rebound? Will we protect the rim? Will we switch effectively? How good will the other team have to play to outscore what we can be on offense to beat us?
If healthy I really like the potential rotation.
There are more than 5 teams better than Memphis in the Big 12. Every game will be a dog fight. You can be a damn good Big 12 team and go 7-11 in conference.
I expect more losses and there are going to be some great games.
Going to be interesting to see what happens to WVU’s roster. Could ut or KSU make run at the players.
Kelvin Sampson NCAA Tournament record:
*Washington St: 0-1
*Oklahoma: 11-11
*Indiana: 1-1
*Houston: 12-5
Career Total: 24-18
kellen pretty confirms we’ll be playing alot of small ball bext year
his story had a picture of ALL the bigs on roster… he captioned it “all the bigs minus the babys 4s”
so there is a group of the guards being referenced as “baby 4s” … obviously arc is one , but there is an “s” so im guessing ramon is another
Arceneaux and Walker
Idk why but I have a feeling that Lath plays a lot this year.
This is based on absolutely nothing just a gut feeling lol
i think we probably need to see how he does in the international scrimmages…
bowser gave the same vibe at this point last year… but it was blantantly obvious he wouldn’t play in the red ad white scrimmage … he also had the body
I’ve asked this before, but do we know if there will be any changes to team uniforms in the switch to the Big 12 other than just adding the B12 patch?
i doubt if anyone would know, even our staff… we are beholden to jordan and what they give …and i doubt they given it out yet
Backcourt
Jamal Shead is a great PG penetrator, distributor and ball handler. Also a great defender. Can take over a game and scores it when needed at 10 points per game. Needs to work on his three ball (30% the last two years).
LJ Cryer has made 43% of his threes and averaged 14 points per game the last two years. Not the greatest rebounder and an average assist to turnover ratio.
Damion Dunn averaged 15 points per game the last two years on 32% three point shooting. Nice rebounder at 4 per game that will be expected to go up. Average assist to turnover ratio.
Both of these transfers will be challenged to take better care of the basketball, and become better passers, rebounders and defenders.
Emmanuel Sharp will likely be the first guard off the bench and the sixth man. Scored 6 ppg last year on 35% from deep. Needs to improve his ball handling and rebounding, and continue the defensive improvement we saw last year.
Terrence Arceneaux will either continue to see limited minutes in the backcourt or will move to a forward position as long as he continues to shoot 25% from deep and 37% overall. He’s wildly talented, but needs to improve a bunch to warrant PT ahead of the proven quantities listed above.
Ramon Walker is another talented kid who needs to shoot better in order to play more.
I don’t know what to expect from the Jefferson kid. Hopefully, he can play some PG as our ballhandling will suffer when Shead takes a breather.
Jefferson isnt a pg …lj likely becomes the pg with shead seating. mylik of the rare occasion both are out
Too bad about Jefferson. Is Wilson still here? That’s great.
While you are probably right and I get that Cryer is “PG-sized” at 6-1, but over the last two years (50 games) he’s got 96 assists (1.9) and 82 (1.6) turnovers. Only 30 (0.6) steals.
Compare Shead at 5.6 assists, 2.0 TOs and 1.6 steals the last two years. That’s a huge drop off in terms of efficiently running an offense, and on defense as well.
thats the reason he left baylor… he was set to be the star of a preseason top 15 in baylor, he gave that up to show he can be a Pg… and the fact he chose houston, likely means we promised him that opportunity … baylor he was exclusively a offball catch and shoot player…
and its not official but wilson has been in the summer practices with the new squad which he wouldnt be doing if he didnt intend to stay
Thanks for the background.
I guess we will know for sure about Wilson if he makes the international trip with the team.
Said it before and I’ll say it again… We’re running 4Gs A Lot next season.
In the (5) NCAA tournaments, 2 of the teams that knocked us out played 4 out. Baylor and Miami
Miami: Pack, Wong, Poplar and Miller
Baylor: Butler, Mitchell, Teague and Mayer
Would love to see lineups of Shead w/ Cryer & Sharp. 2 of our best 3pt shooters. But both of those guys have to improve defensively for those lineups to excel
If Ramon gets his shot back. If Mylik can be a ball hawking defender. On paper, this would be the best guard group we’ve had under Sampson. (2021-22 would’ve been the best before Mark & Sasser injuries)
Three point percentage for TA just doesn’t mean much to me at this point.
Some players used to playing all game and shooting without a conscious are going to struggle. I personally didn’t see the hesitation and reluctance some of you think he had. Yes he lost some confidence but still took the open shots.
I firmly believe his shot is solid and will continue growing in other areas. He and Sharp off the bench is OH MY GOODNESS.
We have a lot of ways to beat teams.
