I think Coogs are going to surprise. In a GOOD way on Saturday! Just have to play for 4 quarters and there’s a real shot!

These were probably posted elsewhere, but just in case:

Man, if Tune can connect on a few passes beyond 15 yards and our RBs can keep doing what they have been, I think we’ll surprise too. Hoping to see Stevenson, Bryson and LARK with big games. We’ll miss Kings ability to make plays when things break down but would like to see the passing game get going and finally end our 2nd half struggles.

That’ll be key. If Tune can start hitting the intermediate or deep throws with any regularity, our offense will open up a ton. It will also be interesting to see if Tune goes over the middle at all, especially anything over 7+ yards down the field. King wasn’t even throwing to that section of the field which made it easier on the defense to defend our offense (and may have contributed to the 3rd quarter struggles after defenses were able to adjust).

I wish it for Lark the most, to be completely honest. Kid is a senior that has had more coaches the past years than the Cleveland Browns. Works his butt off to start and has the opportunity to put this offense on his back! I’m hoping for a big game from him and a big enough turn around so that he may at least get a UDFA deal.

Edit: their secondary will give us opportunities to complete passes. I agree if Tune can pass the ball all over the field then we’re really going to be in business!

It wouldn’t shock me to see the offense look a lot better with Tune under center. As absolutely electric as King is, I’ve noticed he holds on to the ball a looooooooong time. The Air Raid isn’t designed to accommodate that. Maybe that’s because the receivers aren’t open – I haven’t noticed one way or the other – but my suspicion is that if Tune can get the ball out to the wide receivers quick and let them make their plays, we could see a lot of improvement.

Yeah was surprised to see how little the middle of the field was used after looking at this spray chart. Ironically, his 2nd and 3rd longest completions were to that part of the field. I’m no expert but curious if that was due him just not being comfortable in the pocket.

Where is the 11 yard line marker on this diagram?

Agreed. I love seeing Lark fly toward the sideline after a TD catch.

Everybody always brings the deep middle up when talking about our QBs, but do any QBs throw 20+ yards in the middle of the field?? That is a danger area, you usually go deep to the side the safety is not on. If they have no safeties over the top, you can take that shot but that usually means there is a blitz and you dont have time for it. If you go after the middle of the field it would usually be at most between 10-15 yards to take advantage of the area between the LBs and safeties.

I would bet those two that King completed in the middle 20 and 25 yards down the field were on scrambles with a break down in coverage. Also I think the most concerning is the gaps under 10 yards between the outside throws and over the middle throws. Seems like there should be more in the area between from slants, quick ins, etc. Have not taken advantage of those enough.

Answers the question “Why isn’t Lark playing?” I figured it had something to do with attitude. Tyron says it in a nice way.

Interesting points. I don’t know the answer and can only find a chart through first 3 games of 2018 to compare. He went to the deep middle a little bit more there but no telling if it was from pocket or scramble based on the chart. The spots you pointed out between outside and middle are there though. Maybe because of LT and RT?

Edit: 1st 3 games of 2018.

Anyway, didn’t mean to fill the pregame thread with the past. Maybe GoCoogs.com can do similar charts for Tune and see if the spray looks different.

Could be height issue, maybe I am wrong but it seemed like under Dana’s offense (and Kingsbury) with Case we used slants a lot more and used the entire field within 10-15 yards. It would be very interesting to see a spray chart for Tune after UNT or a couple more games.

I sense that many may think that two players thought they were above the team and quit on them. My take, anyway.

Its on the other end of the field. Or, it could be missing because these weren’t at TDECU.

Hmm…I was a little surprised to see them again and D’Eriq has hit a few over the middle in the mid range distance. Two things I notice: 1) his accuracy deep is bad (not new news) and 2) he doesn’t really throw to the left. Everything in the middle is to the right of the two hash marks. There is one incomplete 10 yard pass to the left that is between the numbers and the left hash mark. That’s a lot of space that he isn’t using.

Edit: NVM. Didn’t read that the spray chart was 2018.
