I was in grade school during the 2000’s, so I can’t really remember.
Just last week someone was talking about how mild this summer was.
I got married in June of 1980. We went about 30 days in a row of 100 degrees. So yeah.
July was pretty mild
When I moved to L.A. 25 years ago, I came back for my sister’s wedding after only just 5 months. It was in June. I was melting like a snowbird. I asked my mom “Is it always this hot here?” She kind of rolled her eyes at me to say, of course it is, you Cali wimp.
Yes
I think daytime highs were always this hot.
Nighttime lows were not this high though. It doesn’t cool off at night anymore.
So average temps are higher than they were 30-40 years ago.
Lot more concrete and roofs now:
My wife was pregnant with our first child the summer of 1980. She was miserable. This year has been really pleasant up to now.
It wasn’t pleasant in June or early July.
As a child in the 60s it didn’t seem blistering till I went out for football. Yes. I think all the concrete keeps the heat island going.
When I was in grade school, September was beginning of cool weather. Now, September is an extension of August.
Where were you last year?
I think it’s always been this hot, but when you’re young, it doesn’t bother you as much. Get that sip of water out of the garden hose and keep on playing. Thankfully this summer is somewhat less oppressive than last year. But it’s still getting to me. It makes we wish I had the resources to have a summer home up north somewhere.
I was also in grade school during the 2000’s. I don’t recall houston being as hot as it’s been the past 2-3 years tbh. It’s definitely gotten hotter
more concrete, less greenspace, this doesnt allow the city to cool at night…more people, more cars, getting older lol
I remember as a kid in the sixties while riding my bike that the road tar was soft and sometimes even melting . Hot !
In August 1998, I drove from Houston to New Orleans. The weather stripping in my hatchback melted.
In the early 80’s I was playing tennis on the courts at the Shamrock Hilton. My Adidas Rod Laver shoes started melting on the court. They were thicker green back then
It was hotter before
