Texas also about to go to the SEC. Which is as tough a league as the Big 12. Gotta be able to recruit top 50 players

Not a good sign and not as strong as they could be. Like you said guard play isn’t that strong. But I don’t think they’re going to be a disaster and a mess like some posters have said.
At first glance the 2 portal additions look like they are scrambling to find something. Which they probably are. I’ll have to look into Weaver and Zerik more. But I will say Weaver looks quite athletic.
weaver was 9pt at uta… and taking a drastic step up in league … weaver isnt a threat. mid major player have their stats shrink not increase in step ups

lol im not an insider, not on the recruting stuff…
but based on those who are… we are likely going to be a 6’8-ish front court regardless as we arent looking for a center, but a stretch 4… all plausible options that fit the criteria are 6’8-ish…so we are probably short next year
but note we did reach out to grant nelson 3 days ago, who is a 6’11 stretch 4 .so there is a chance we get some height from him

Point taken, but I just want to clarify something. CJ Stroud wasn’t a GM/HC pick, it was an Owner pick. Also, the kid didn’t have a great visit with us and didn’t get on well with the OC while here either.
The Owner made a late decision to get him and rumors came out that week that we would do this. In fact, Daniel Jeremiah from NFL Network mocked us to pick Stroud #2 and Anderson #3 in his final mock. Others said the same verbally.
The fact that we are reaching out so late for size seems to indicate that we are about to be Lofton’d again.Clearly this is on Sampson, and as much as I like what he has done for this program, we will be wasting a great backcourt because the front court has been neglected.

You also have to be realistic. If coach hasn’t gotten a player to signed with UH by the end of this month chances are that we’re going to end up with a Darius Bowser situation all over again.

Why would Nelson sign with an agency and then go to the portal? I mean I guess it’s not really like signing an agent because he’s retaining his eligibility

Maybe. But he could use another year and potentially become a first round pick to get a guaranteed contract. He’s projected late 2nd to undrafted now. Could change after the combine. But I would bet he gets drafted late. Someone will take a chance on him. NBA loves guys his size that can handle the ball and score. He would be taken on as a project.
If he’s signed with an agency then he has an agent. A player can sign with an approved agent and retain eligibility either way. He’s exploring the draft and also in the portal along with many other dozens of players. This is not unusual at all.

Thanks for the insight. Not really aware of the agent rules. Didn’t know that many guys signed if they planned on staying or even if they were in between.
