I would be ok with that but do you think UT would be ok being renamed the University of Houston - Austin?

It would have a cool acronym UH-A (ooh Ahh).

That’s what I was thinking.

Per your source we are taking over uta?
I am all for it. Then we can have our puf share. Keep us posted. Don’t be a stranger.

Don’t have a source - however, I think merger of UH system under UT System would work, if we get in agreement that UH will get priority for obtaining AAU and 1/3 of PUF out of 2/3 PUF that UT put towards the entire UH system. Also we retain or keep the same name and branding. UT gets its campus in Houston and also mergers the UT Houston medical school (similar to UTSA and UTHSA) and main campus together which elevates the AAU research requirements on day one for UH. It’s a win win for everyone plus they will get a BIG 12 school which would suppress the TAMU system. Just my opinion so don’t get mad at me for thinking creatively.

Yeah, I’ve said this before, but it seems more and more like the UT system is deciding to elevate second-tier schools like UTSA and UTD in order to be the next UC system, and if they do, that’s a “join, or die” decision. Right now we can tell the Legislature that they should fund us more because TX needs another public AAU university to support its growing population in a modern economy. If UT throws a bunch of money at UTSA and UTD and makes them the universities that we’ve worked to become, that argument goes straight down the drain. Our options would be to play with the UNTs and Texas States (and Texas Tech, who would face a similar decision) of the world in the kiddie pool, or fold into a larger system with access to the PUF, more likely UT than A&M.

This board would riot, but all of our academic goals would basically be immediately in-hand.

100% agree, it’s the only way to achieve AAU given the money that’s involved to get us there.

We have to give up some control but for the betterment of the whole university and city/state as well.

This board can riot and past alumni can cry a river but the impact it will have nationally is huge.

I don’t think it’s inevitable right now — it would probably take decades to convince UTSW and MD Anderson to accept a merger with UTD and UH, respectively — but my internal doomsday clock on this is at about 3 minutes to midnight. As of right now, it’s still possible that we could get there without being folded into another school.

There’s also the fact that impending changes to the higher ed system coming from the legislature may substantially harm everyone, UT included, but I’m gonna leave that one there.

Get serious now Bro.

She got us from R2 to R1, got us a Phi Beta Kappa chapter, got us back into the “power” conference ranks, got us a new Medical school and new law school building that is the envy of the entire ABA accredited law school world, and helped push through an additional billion dollar endowment.

If you didn’t know she was there, and what her legacy will be
then I’d sure like to know where in the name of Heck you’ve been.

No way.

I’m not denying the benefits that UH would get under the UT system, but I am much prouder of UH remains UH.

I think that he was saying that in exchange for PUF money, a bigger medical school by merging ours with UT-Houston (and as such, VERY STRONG AAU potential), and incorporation under the UT-system
we would RETAIN the name/identity “University of Houston.”

Just a hypo!

I would only do it if it gets us AAU immediately

Thank you, people are forgetting her main goal.

I only see her during games and when she shook my hand at graduation.

But from when I graduated until now, not much changed other than a new football and basketball facilities.

On the academic side, I was expecting AAU status by 2020 but obviously that hasn’t happened yet.
I didn’t expect to return to the power conference before being an AAU school.

Either way before we build a statue for her we need a national championship in football or basketball and be AAU before she retires.

Correct, to add to that the synergy of the combined institution would make TAMU rethink as well maybe they go after TTech System. UT System would benefit greatly from having multiple AAU institutions especially with this AI future world we are headed towards. State of Texas needs more AAU institutions and that should be the primary priority.

Only do this move if we get to keep the UH branding.

If she hired back Dana Dimel on a five-year contract, that would not change the fact that UH has risen in esteem for academic reasons which, ultimately, is all that should matter.

In any case, we still have Sampson and basketball.

When did you graduate? I think you’re missing a lot that has happened, that was mentioned previously. The medical school being a big one that isn’t related to athletics.

I graduated in 2012 once we got announced to Tier 1.

So yes, you’re missing a lot. The Medical School would be the biggest thing you’re missing. Some other items of note:

Moved UHV nursing to UH and on campus.
New dining hall, new student center, new Satellite replacement, another couple parking garages or improvements to parking, new housing replacement for quads, expansion and remodeling of the Hilton College and hotel, new law school building, etc.

From 2012 to 2020 the four year graduation rate increased 114%.and the six year rate increased 35%.

There’s more I’m missing part because I just forget when some stuff was completed. Also some stuff that broke ground last year.

Also I didn’t include anything done at the other system schools.

Also I forgot that under her watch we were able to get that billion dollar endowment or whatever it is called from the legislature.
