I was dating a girl at UT (78), and a bud and I went to the KA Fight Night…same as UH, but they ended it every year with “Battle Royale”, one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life…
Each fraternity could enter one guy. They tied your left arm behind your back and then blindfolded everyone. Bell rings and you’ve got 15 or so drunk dudes wildly swinging at each other…I have never seen so many coldcocks in my life. I think I saw half of it because I was laughing so hard…
The only Cougar Den that I remember was a crappy little place in the corner of the lowest level of the UC. I really do not remember anyone going there too much in the ‘80s. Certainly not dorm students who could drink openly, legally and freely in the dorms.
I say freely (unregulated) not free of course (unless you were cheap and never went into your own pocket).
This is all post vaccine wishing:
-Replace the dance with open air concert by stadium or roof of garage.
-love to see expanded and supported (power, coals disposal, portable toilets, etc) tailgating in grass under trees across Cullen.
-bonfire sounds awesome somewhere in or near campus.
From a kid in the Dome throughout the 70s and into the SWC…
1.getting the pep squad ( 8-10 brass) of the band to return to roaming around (now)TDECU randomly with no advance plan and play “Eat Em Up” to liven up that section of fans?
2.Also, the Olympic theme at the beginning of the game was always a stirring start, and something only the Coogs did ( many Coog Olympic champs )
I miss this. It typically happened in the 2nd half
I added a few photos of the ΣΝ “Little 500” Bike Race to my post above…
Hank, why do you drink?
Hank, why do you roll smoke?
There used to be a platform that was held up for shasta to do push-ups on.
The student organizations would paint a window at the University Center for homecoming.
Homecoming parade.
For 2, it is done at the end of the games after every win!
