The team will get better as the season goes on. Offensive process is a bit of an issue right now replacing Shead but I expect it to improve once Uzan gets settled in. Mercy Miller & Arceneaux need more shots but playmaking looks rough when Uzan is out. Cryer isn’t really a table setter so it’s just him trying to make something happen
Agree with you.
I also found it interesting during CKS’s post game presser that he mentioned several guys weren’t playing as well as they can.
Hope we have a good showing tonight against Notre Dame & win. Don’t think we’ll have a chance to prove ourselves under the bright lights of Prime Time until Conference play…
And so far Iowa St., Kansas & Baylor are looking tough.
It’s gonna be a long wait til 11:30. Good news is my kids will be out and I can watch undisturbed! Gonna pop open the scotch, maybe
I think there is still some chance at a some of the money though, so we aren’t completely out of that yet at least.
Can we take bets on whether you’re awake for the whole game?
I highly doubt I get past the 1st half lol
CKS will go on a 5+ minute scoring drought in the 1st half to put us all to sleep before midnight.
Its early so the team will get better and we are definitely ready for prime time. I do wonder…
-
Why haven’t we been as good on the defensive glass the last few years
-
Is there a way to prevent having the long scoring droughts and improve the offensive flow. Can the frontcourt actually become an offensive threat to open things up for the guards?
-
Does our style of play work vs the elite athletic programs?
@Jcoop9 the defensive rebounding, small guards & forwards with length but not weight & size
Whos been an asset rebounding has been Uzan. Cause hes 6’4. But wasn’t on the floor yesterday
Our defensive rebounding issues last and this year are due to not having an elite rebounding guard like we had previously. The way we play defense it is imperative our guards come in and clean up the glass most possessions.
Agreed. Same issue i thought we had in 2022-23 season.
Shead & Sasser were non-rebounders.
Jarace freshman, his motor for defensive rebounding, was TBD.
So it was Jwan & Mark having to get all the 50/50 rebounds
Against, really athletic teams, having an undersized squad, it shows.
Cryer, Sharp. Not great rebounders
How much is it the scouting report is out on us as well? Teams come in focused on matching us on the boards.
Im sure good coaches make it a priority
But, i view rebounding like good tackling.
We practice it alot, but do we have the athletes to execute
In years past we had, Grimes, Gorham, Jarreau.
Edwards, Taze, Fabian. Good size at the guard position to rebound
This yr, we have Jwan & Tugler. Our guards against really athletic teams struggle to rebound
Cryer at his size is probably a liability on the glass. Sharp is only 6’3". And isnt a quick jumper
I think part of it is that we’re playing teams that are closer to our talent level.
Right. I think both Auburn & Alabama, do have better athletes
Thats why Arcenaux is so important. With his size, he can help on the glass at the guard position
Also, Tugler is going for the shot block on Alabama guards, leaving Jwan & a bunch of our guards to battle with Alabamas bigs for the rebound
Or if Tugler is on the perimeter, contesting a perimeter shot, again leaves us vulnerable in the paint for an offensive rebound
The ball definitely bounced their way last night. They got 75% of the 50-50 balls
Truth. When he is out, every man with the ball seems to be hunting his own shot instead of trying to create for teammates.
I think we need to get Roberts going. We need to feed him more and especially in those scoring drought situations.
I think our biggest hurdle is figuring out how we are going to close games. We are good enough to compete with anybody and beat anybody. But to be consistent at it you have to find your niche. Last year it was pick and roll with Shead. And he knew what to do, you don’t have that now.
Also I think @Coog1992 nailed it. Our guards are the reason our defensive rebounding is so much worse. I think TA is so important to this team, and tbh, Wilson might be more important than we think. We need his rebounding bad. His shot is much improved as well. But Francis and TA being fully healthy is the first key.
As far as Uzan I agree, but gracious these officials were awful. Some of the calls were legit but Uzan and Sharp were victims of some really bush league.
I’m still trying to figure out who Sharp fouled before he left the game.
Those two leaving killed us and also we had 3,others had 4 fouls.
It was all about the refs last night.
We’re short on elite talent. Our fate was probably sealed In March when we did the ‘run it back’ and failed to pursue elite talent in the portal. Our BIGS are in reality small BIGS & our other starters are small. The BIGS as well as the rest of the guys give their all but the BIGS are not scorers. Which means our scoring must come from elsewhere. LJ & Uzan are our only ‘playmakers’ (talking starters). If TA & MM don’t come on with their development it’s going to be hard to make a deep run come March.
