the prices are a reflection of society and its priorities…not that hard to understand
*edit, whoops, didn’t mean to directly respond to your comment
You’re good, bro
Im still mad nobody liked my Holy Grail quote
I got you, fam
Legally yes, kind of. But this is an arbitrary number based on what scientific data ? Can these
“adults” even legally buy liquor or even run for some offices ? You know the answers.
It does matter and you will start to see more consequences of this in the future. Or you may enjoy watching this unregulated product where the highest bidder gets the best kids.
Just crazy, but I guess the “in part” gets you a pass. Have a real employee/employer contract that
provides protections to both and stop with the silly “ but I used Johnny Football’s name on my advertisement billboard”. Be serious. But let’s end the silly charade of amateur athletes and college students required to take college level classes. If people and universities want to support that, more
power to them.
This will settle out, it’s the wild west right now, like the dot com bubble. But it’ll find its level.
So you’re arguing that adults being compensated might not be good for them because of their age makes them more likely to be reckless?
Love when people act brand new to something that has largely been happening for decades.
That ended decades before NIL came about.
The premise of this thread is that NIL (compensating players) ruined college football but everything that people are griping about happened previously before NIL with the only difference being that players have more power to negotiate.
Not picking on gen Z and not making a blanket statement, just my observation.
Yeah sure…
Isn’t that how it works everywhere else? Maybe the highest bidder is money, maybe the facilities, maybe the benefits, but always a highest bidder of some form.
When coaches stop getting paid $9M a year to lose 7 games.
Damn straight…mine are
I have said for a while now that the best long term solution is to just make athletes employees and sign them to contacts. Problem is the Title IX people. Women’s Sports are the biggest welfare case in college athletics. They take from mainly Black Male Athletes (Football and Basketball) to give to White women sports like soccer and field hockey and other stuff people don’t watch or care
NIL has such complexity there is no right or wrong to it. Many good points made here pro and con.
The NFL has benefited forever on a free minor league unlike baseball largely paying for their future players. It should be interesting to see what happens when the NIL a player received is larger than the rookie contract offered.
Another thing to look out for is when the blockers who made possible the 50 yard run or time to throw the TD want theirs. Football is more dependent on everyone doing their job on each play effecting the result than other sports. Should it be individual or team NILs.
No, this is getting old. You have now, for a third time miss quoted me, and only used my partial statements. They are not adults
The kids may be living away from home for the first time with $83,000/month in their pockets.
Perfectly fine and good idea
The law says otherwise my friend.
drinking and holding certain office says otherwise. There are reasons for that.
Being charged as an ADULT for a crime, and being old enough to vote, be drafted, and exercise every right in the Bill of Rights says otherwise my friend.
Drinking isn’t a right, but I consider the 21 year old drinking age to be ridiculous for a lot of the same reasons.
Let’s please keep politics out of this discussion
So what? It’s their money and they’ve earned it. If they spend it on something stupid, that’s life.
