Houston 2017 Schedule Released

I’m in!

Our OOC opponents combined records from last year - 17-34

UTSA 6-7 (people should be a little worried about this game, not a lot, but a little)
Zona 3-9 (they will be improved)
Rice 3-9 (worst team on our schedule)
Tech 5-7 (lost a slew of players, including Mahomes)

SMU beats us once while we’re recovering from being shafted by the Big XII and our coach is distracted by his “dream job” and suddenly they’re one of our toughest match ups??? Please!

No reason we can’t win 9 again with that schedule.

I think Tulsa is a much tougher opponent than SMU these days. However, SMU has handed UH some embarrassing losses (two come to mind) when they do win.

9-3 is the measuring stick for me with this schedule.

Interesting fact… Kliff Kingsbury and Major Applewhite were contemporaries of each other in the LilXII. Kliff only played in six games in 1999, not playing against Texas. They only took the field against each other once in their collegiate careers in 2000, but Major left the game due to an injury, which opened up the doorway for Chris Simms. In 2001, Simms started all the games except the Holiday Bowl, Major’s Senior year.

Texas beat Tech all three years Major played for Texas and Kliff played for Tech. Let’s hope that Major makes sure that he stays undefeated versus Kliff.

::8-4:::

I’ll disagree with your Temple and Tulsa prediction. Temple will have a brand new coach and I don’t expect Tulsa to test us like they did at (our) home. That was a game that was horribly mismanaged by TH. I’m a bit more optimistic than you are, but hey we’ll see when the season starts! I’m looking forward to day one!

It is so difficult to prognosticate when you have an entirely new staff coming in and a new QB. Even though Herman had GWJ when he got here in 2015, who would have guessed we would go 13-1 that season? Guessing our record at this point is all fun and games, but surely we can all admit it’s mostly blind conjecture. In order to keep my expectations in the right place, I’m going to forego guessing for this season. But keep 'em coming, guys! Surely one of you will be right.

Temple loses their coach and a lot of their offensive production. There’s a reason Rhule decided to leave.

Tulsa’s gonna be tough. Tulsa’s always tough.

USF may not be that good if Charlie can’t get that D turned around quickly. They lose their RB, Mack, who was huge in that offense and they are switching offenses to the Briles offense. We played Charlie’s teams close under Levine and this USF team isn’t at that level.

Alas, I’m just hoping we stomp the crap out of the Roadrunners right off the bat to kick Major’s tenure off on the right foot.

Yea I think depending on how the first game goes we could either go 11-1 (loss to Arizona) or 8-4 (loss to UTSA, Arizona, Tech, and with Tulsa, USF, and Temple being a threat)

Not that we should take any game lightly considering our history of piss poor showings against some truly awful teams (SMU, Texas State), but why is everyone so worked about about Arizona? They were pretty terrible last year.

Away game. 2nd true game under a new coaching staff. There’s more uncertainty at the beginning of the season.

Exactly! 10-2 conservative guess

AZ was terrible last year, as was Rice, and I don’t foresee us laying another egg against UTSA.

In conference, we get three teams that beat us last year on the road (Navy, Memphis, and SMU) all at home.

We also get Tech (and we’ll be VERY fired up to play a Big 12 school at home; remember when Keenum did the last time we played 'em in Houston?) at TDECU.

Temple loses a lot.

Outside of USF, I really don’t see too much that concerns me.

Given that, I’d say that anything less than 10-2 would have to be considered a disappointment.

Unless Kyle Allen or the new QB plays at a high level, I see UH going 8-4. Greg Ward help cover up for an average o-line last year, and Todd Orlando was the D coordinator last season. UH also lost their best cover corner in Howard Wilson to the NFL. Is not like UH is head & shoulders more talented than every team in American Conference. I hope CMA proves me wrong.

You do understand that all teams lose players every year. You get new players.

It is what I like about college sports !!
