Because he fits the Rockets needs very well and a new coach inheriting such a young team sorely needs this to cultivate his culture. The money doesnât matter. They have their future under contract and will have the slot available in 4 years to go with future draft capital. Need to root for NJ to suck this season.
A little bit of a risk with his personality and maybe a year more than preferred but you donât sign FAs without going over a bit.

Maybe I have not watched enough of Dillon Brooks, but what I have seen I am not impressed. However as a Rox fan I am looking forward to being proven wrong.
He brings an edge we need and is acknowledged as an elite defender. If we can keep his personality in check he will do wonders for the team. I am not really worried about overpaying him but will be interesting to see if we can keep him properly engaged for that long.
