Game 24: Baylor @ #6 Houston (W 76-65)

That was uncomfortable.

the free throws and game in general was honestly a pleasant surprise lol

though the recent trend of poor 3pt shooters all of a sudden going lights out against us is pretty frustrating

Very much so.

I honestly almost turned the radio off when he started that unnecessary smack down. I get the frustration with fielding lane questions, but there’s no need to crush the dude in public like that. It’s a bad look.

Woof. Chris writes some of the better UH articles, wonder why CKS is always dogging on him.

As Rothstein would say: NO MERCY

It seemed like he started off kind of joking then decided to just decapitate him for the fun of it.

No sense in dogging him that much, but it’s true that he ask a lot of the same questions. Appreciate that Sampson caught himself being a little rude and went back to answer the question again

At one point, we had twice as many shot attempts as did BU. Their percentage was higher for quite a while. Don’t know yet how stats finished, but we had twice as many shot attempts at one point, late in the game. Late in the second half, they had only scored 16 points, but then we got sloppy.

By the same token, Sampson tends to say the same things regardless of what question is asked.

All the guys fall into the habit of asking generic stuff to lead off. Maybe it’s because they know it’s probably going off the rails anyway, or maybe they need some new material.

Anyway, do y’all think our propensity to give up more easy buckets in the paint is the result of defensive breakdowns or just a matter of the other team executing at a high level?

Idk but we’ve definitely been running into some hot hands from 3pt. In our last six games we’ve had: Griffen (KU) 5-6, Hawkins (TTU) 4-7, Walton (TTU) 4-6, Hammond (CU) 5-7, and tonight Love (Baylor) 4-5. Makes it tough on the defense when every night someone on the other team is having a career night from behind the arc.

Baylor shot lights out. And they caught us in rebounds.

They had 15 turnovers. And that was the ballgame.

Research who the ticket holders are, contact them and make an offer . . . . .

Those were all such crazy outliers, too.

Griffen: had made only 3 threes in the 5 games before ours, and has only made 4 in the 4 games since going 5-6 against us.

Hawkins: 29% from three on the season entering our game, including 5-31 in the 7 games before.

Walton: Had made 4 threes in the 7 games before going 4-6 versus us and has made 1 in 2 games since.

Love: 29% from three on the season before tonight.

Hammond is a good shooter but even that was an outlier for him— hadn’t made more than 4 threes in a game all season.

I’m really talking more about the layups and dunks. It seems to happen more often this year, especially as we get deeper into conference play.

I kind of think that teams have made adjustments to our defense that we haven’t really countered. But you also can’t defend everything, so it may be that we just accept that a certain number of those easy ones are gonna happen.

Could be tired legs. Could be some of the foul trouble we’ve been getting into lately. You know guys not challenging as hard at the rim to avoid a whistle. And maybe the 3pt shooting is stretching our defense and opening up the paint.

Rode the bus to TSU for games that had few students, including Greeks, in attendance. Free transportation to and from but few students. FC opened and we did the walk up thing for several games, at a much higher cost. Not a lot of students at those games. Attended an event and one of the purposes of that event was to promote sale of season tickets. I broke my budget, thinking there would be a demand before long, and picked up two. Still no demand from students. A couple of years later, as the team has drawn national attention, the absentee over the past 20 or so year students are deciding that they should get more tickets at the expense of the athletic department budget. If the band wagon was large enough, the students would want to take it over.

I would have to say that was one of our best games this year.

Glad to have Sharp back.

Baldwin’s strength is writing stories about the players and the program. Does he ask repetitive questions? Yes. However there was no need to rip the guy a new one in front of his peers and embarrass the guy like that. If coach was tired of the same questions pull him to the side and let him know privately. I for one have enjoyed the numerous stories he’s written and he’s done nothing but shine a wonderful light on the program and he sure in the heck did not deserve that. I love coach but in my humble opinion he should apologize to Baldwin (not privately) but in front of his peers. He preaches being humble to his players.
