Donovan Smith

Complete passes to covered guys for little or no yards, or even behind the line for losses look good on a pct complete chart, but do nothing to help the team win. I had major concerns about Smith when we first got him and my concerns were justified last season. This season has given me nothing to change my mind.

Last season he was slow in going through his progressions and to make a decision, he’s no faster this year. So many times instead of quickly hitting an open man, he waits until the coverage gets there.

I concur! He looked good in Spring and against UNLV. We don’t have any other QB on the team who has done that …

Duarte and so called reporters apparently too scared to ask if Ale would be given a chance to compete.

Telegraphs, fixing his eyes on the whole pattern of the primary receiver

Tonight, he (Smith) had a receiver WIDE OPEN in the end zone but selected to throw into tight coverage and ended up with an interception . . . . . “tunnel vision” ? ? ? ? ?

IMO, it wasn’t even tight coverage. It was severely under thrown

No vision.

He absolutely must sit down the rest of the season. We cannot do worse than this!

I’ve been on board with this and he clearly refuses to play Ale for whatever reason. If no DS then Chriss only?

I’m so glad I didn’t buy season tickets this year.

He also had Wilson running open across the middle multiple times last night. I don’t even watch anywhere within 5 yards of the LoS. I indulge in this game each play were i count count how many WRs are open.

Play Edwards at this point. He made captain, surely he can be given a shot

He had many, many open receivers all night. He was abysmal. I don’t think it was an OL issue for most of it. He had time. He is just inept.

There was enough time to throw last night, most of the time.

Bench Smith and what, put in Chriss? He is even more limited at QB than Smith. Do you think the defense doesn’t know that? To show you how much confidence they have in Chriss, they used a gadget play, when during the snap count, Chriss and Mews switched positions and Mews took the snap and ran to the outside.

Doesn’t matter if it’s donovan either. Iowa State had everyone lined up within 8 yards of the LoS majority of the night.

That’s why Wilson was able to be targeted on that deep post, but Donovan under threw it. And i think that’s the point he became spooked and never took a shot again. His arm is bad and his confidence too.

Barbay needs to take most of the blame.

How many chances has Chriss gotten to throw the ball? Do we know if it’s a skill or coaching issue as to why he hasn’t been throwing it? He know he can throw it based on what he did at his last school.

Can only go by what I saw in Spring Training and so far this season, but he hasn’t shown himself to be an adept passer thus far.

Pretty good scrambler though.

At some point, you got to teach these guys to just play football when plays break down and play off script. Greg Ward, King, Keenum, etc. played off script a lot and did well.

I don’t think he knows the routes on the plays. I think that’s why he isn’t throwing.

He can’t read a defense and has no downfield vision. It’s just not in him. Time to sit him down and give Ale chance.
