It would fit his trend of new school every year for the past 4 years…
If he leaves I wouldn’t mind DeRuyter.
1 letter, my bad. Get your panties out of a wad.
Tech’s defense was pretty bad this year despite a couple of solid recruiting years. That would be taking a step back.
This is bad news if he is gone, our defense is what kept us alive in games.
Tech rumors are that they want Wood to get some of the recruits too.
Well, if this is true it’s not coming out of the blue……UH had to know this was a possibility.
As such, they should have reacted and done what was needed to keep him.
I really hope that is the case.
We have not had a defense like this in years….if we just let the guy responsible for that skate town along with some recruits, then what are we doing?
I hold off on judgement until something is official.
I think Fritz has something to do with his Defense success everywhere he’s been.
I’d love to keep Wood but in Fritz i trust. Plus we’re losing most of the starters from this year’s D so it will look different no matter what next year
Oregon co-DC Chris Hampton would be a good replacement. Worked with Fritz at Tulane as DB coach from 2016-19 and DC 2021-22.
So he is supposedly on his way to Lubbock and will be announced tomorrow but no leaks to the media? If it were true, wouldn’t they want to get it out to recruits before signing day.
Also, what would they pay him that we can’t match? 1M-1.2? Seems odd given they have to pay a new OC and Wood. We’ll see tomorrow
I don’t want replacements. I want us to keep our coaches and not let them make lateral moves to rival programs.
Being poached to be a HC is one thing, going to Tech is another.
I thought happiness was Lubbock Texas in my rearview mirror…
The Matador Club, the NIL collective at Texas Tech, pays every Texas Tech football player $25K/year. I wonder if that will make a difference with Wood?
Has @coogs1 ever had a scoop before? This feels very iffy
Losing Coach Wood would hurt. Instead of improving upon this year, an aspect next year would consist of getting used to the new DC. We’re primed to slingshot tech so it sucks that they might delay us.
Yeah i don’t get the move. It’s lateral and they don’t even have an OC hired so you don’t know if your defense can actually mesh well with the OC philosophy
Cash money
Part of the good of having Fritz as HC is he knows a lot of people. Our DC leaving seems improbable, but if he does leave Fritz could probably name 2-3 guys off the top of his head to replace him. I personally can’t see the guy making a parallel move- especially to scenic Lubbock.
We found 750k to fire Barbay and getting 1.2m back from Dana’s new deal. There is enough left to give Wood a nice raise without spending more than we were going to. Can’t see tech doubling his salary, paying his buyout and assistant $ too.
This will either be a head scratcher move or material for roasting tech tards
