Dawson hired away

I like Clint Trickett but that might just be because he was on Last Chance U

Well since he promoted the offensive analyst to QB coach, it may be Littrell since he isn’t a QB coach. This is assuming he does replace Dawson.

Miami: “I wish for an offensive coordinator from a team that can score 63 points in a game!”

Littrell would be an interesting prospect.

North Texas put up some good numbers in a couple of games last season
they also got blown out in games they didn’t win, except for their Bowl loss against Boise where they lost by 3 points.

However, when the offense was clicking, they looked DOMINANT & weren’t afraid to sling the ball around.

Here is our current hands-on coaching staff having removed Dawson and inserting Burchett as QB coach.

Dana Holgorsen Head Coach
Doug Belk Associate Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator
Mike Jinks Assistant Head Coach – Running Backs – Liaison to the THSCA
Corby Meekins Assistant Head Coach – Tight Ends/Inside Receivers – Liaison to the GHFCA
Mike Burchett Quarterbacks
Eman Naghavi Running Game Coordinator/Offensive Line
Brian Early Defensive Line
Archie McDaniel Linebackers
David Rowe Secondary
Mark Scott Special Teams Coordinator
Daikiel Shorts Jr. Wide Receivers

That’s 11 total; if one of these is not the OC then we either have to add another, make one the OC, or replace one with an OC.

Per the article in SI last June, “Football staffs are limited to one head coach and 10 assistants who can work with players in hands-on roles.” However, that was last June and there has been pressure to increase the number, so we may or may not be able to add another this year.

He’s a free agent

One less ‘girl name’ with the departure of Shannon. Say no to hiring any more girl named coaches including anyone named Dana, Chris, Pat, Gene/Jean, Michelle, Carol, Sean/Shawn, etc.

I’m a young guy so excuse my ignorance, but can someone tell me what about Spavital makes him a good candidate? Just looking at his recent stats, Cal’s offense has been less than stellar. Last year, the Coogs ranked #25 in total offense while Cal ranked #89. In 2021, our offense ranked #63 compared to Cal’s #86.

ETA: it also seems like the guy can’t hold a job. Could be a million reasons, like head coaches getting fired, but I’m wondering how much of it is performance related

What about a Kim?

Spav only took the Cal job this offseason after he got fired as Texas State’s HC, so Cal’s performance last year is sort of irrelevant. When he was last an OC – under Dana at WVU, actually – his offenses were 27th and then 8th in yards per play. and 22nd and 7th in total offense against FBS competition.

Really, though, it’s mostly that people like him because he was a GA here during the Keenum years.

Yup do not blame Cal on him. He has a lot of experience and seems like a good fit

Is Spav a part of “h-town mafia”?

No

His brother was the architect of Levine’s recruiting success

As in Kim Helton? That would be too traumatic for me.

Their fans on their board seem to think that we’re upset by them hiring Dawson. They’re confused by our reaction. Lol

My nephew is named Shannon, it’s a boy name as well.

People here thought West Virginia fans were just throwing sour grapes on our board as well.

Yeah it’s exactly the same thing. It’s also the same as when UH hired D’nofrio from Miami and their fans reaction to that.

We didn’t.
