I looked at various schedules trying to find advantages and disadvantages and found it to be very balanced amongst the contenders.
The Sat to Monday games in conference are going to be tough and may lead to losses for some teams.”-
Wins on the road in this conference are going to be golden and we can do that.
I think we will be going deep into the season again without any home losses.
As soon as Mercy learns how to play defense in the context of the system, he will move up the depth chart. If/when he does, he could well be a future All-American.
He will get PT this year when we have leads. But in tight games as a true freshman, he’s currently limited to an instant offense spark plug off the bench role.
I really like his defense. And I watched him in high school and think he’s a good passer. He made a good quick decision to get that ball to Ramon in the corner. I don’t like that he kept leaving his feet with the ball though.
Offensively he’s not that bad of a shooter and he’s really strong and can get downhill.
My only thing with him is there’s too many guys. He’s the type of guy that Sampson could turn into a star. He’s got the grit but again there’s just too many guys. In front of him is Uzan, Sharp, miller, Harwell, and if Kingston comes here then him too. So Kordel would be 6th in the guard rotation going into his 3rd year.
You never know maybe he stays patient and gets a bigger role as an upperclassman once he develops and some guys go off to the NBA.
Definitely some things he needs to work on. The good things are that he is strong, quick, and usually where he is supposed to be on defense. If he was a little longer he would be perfect for the type of switch/closeout defender we need at the 3. Until we see more I see him as a rotation player at 2 or 3 next year (the kind of guy that Sampson won’t start but will not remove from the rotation in favor of a talented freshman that isn’t ready).
because he isnt going to play any meaningful minutes barring injury AND mccarthy redshirts…how he looks or doesnt means little to the picture this season… he is getting walk-on minutes
his shot looks nots great, the 3 he made was pure louck and everyone on the bench/staff was aware… passable defense but not as impressed for that being his selling point (he was supposed to be a top tier defender)…
mixed bag- willing to pass, made some great unselfish passes… made so terrible turnover scratch your head passes
but it doesnt matter, for this year its like being critical of elvin
I saw it from the point they were all good heartedly laughing about it and coach put his hands over his face. It is always like that when you make a shot off the backboard and you don’t mean to.
But what was your reasoning then? Did you say anything about defense? Pretty sure you didn’t….but now that he didn’t play great defense in the exhibition you’ve changed it to his defense keeping from playing.
Before it was just because he was a freshman……that is flat out wrong.
And then if Mercy does get meaningful minutes you’ll change again and say, well his defense must have gotten better.
After the starters, only TA and MW were just ahead of Mercy on minutes….looks like he has some trust to me.
McFarland reminds me of the first 2 years of Ja’Vier. You can see the potential, but he’s got a lot of baby giraffe in him, which means if he doesn’t know exactly where to be and when to be there, he’s going to have a hard time recovering. There’s no doubt in my mind he’ll get there though.
probably 15-20 lbs from making a real impact, but has really good lateral movement… extremely switchable for someone his size… at this point he might be better defending wings than bigs, which is probably odd to say for a 6’11 guy
